Yeah i don't think the paper mario series will ever recover from this and will continue be like this until Nintendo finally get's the hint we like the originals better. But hey i bet Mario tennis aces will be good right?

... the funny thing is, now that Color Splash has come out, and we've gotten a good taste of the writing in this game? I could see the game having a gag VERY similar to this, albeit not exactly like it. It's still got several of Sticker Star's problems, but the moment-to-moment writing is absolutely fantastic from all I've seen. If I weren't low on budget, I'd maybe pick it up myself now...

Yeah, now that I've watched a few videos on it, the writing's still on point. It's still no TTYD, but it's definitely a huge improvement over Sticker Star.

Honestly, I don't get the hate for Color Splash. Or sticker star for that matter. I'll still but it and enjoy it.. It's just different, why is that a problem for most paper Mario fans?

If you've grown up with the past titles, Paper Mario's always been about a huge in-depth world with a story to be told. Heck, Paper Mario in Japan is called Mario Story. For example, the first game added a lot of depth to the tired formula of Bowser kidnapping Peach, while TTYD took place elsewhere with someone else as the main antagonist. There was a colorful cast of characters that just brought the Mario world to life, more than just Toads being good and Koopas being bad. Heck, they even had some neutral and nice Koopas/Goombas/All the normally evil-aligned enemies. It essentially tells the player the world isn't all just black and white. Goombas can be good too! With Sticker Star and Color Splash, this huge world everyone's fallen in love with has been decimated, replaced with a very generic world that the normal Mario platformers already tread. No story, no depth, nothing. Not to mention the move from making the series an adventure game rather than an RPG. While SPP also moved away mostly from the RPG elements, it still had the story/cast everyone loved from the first two games. Sticker Star and Color Splash lack any of that. There are many more nitpicks I could point out, but this is the bulk of the problem I feel.
To sum it up:Β People loved the old games for the epic story, cast, and overall depth that made the series feel distinct from the other Mario games. None of that exists in Sticker Star and Color Splash.
That said you can hopefully see now why many of us are disappointed with Paper Mario's new direction.

Well, yeah, i can kinda understand. But you gotta realise there ARE gonna be those people who dislike it just to jump on the bandwagon. Yeah, not all of them are, but a significant amount possibly are. I've seen few to no people who like this or sticker star.

Well.... yeah. That's a given for literally anything. Not really applicable to what you asked originally. If they are just hating to hate, they're just a really vocal minority. What I said still stands for most Paper Mario fans, including myself.

Eh, I still like Sticker Star. It's not a bad game at all, just a not-as-good Paper Mario game. The soundtrack is amazing, so I'm happy.

Sticker Star isn't completely terrible. I actually greatly enjoy the soundtrack myself. It's as you said though, it's just not a good Paper Mario game. It's fine on its own for what it's worth.

Poor, poor Fan Guy... Ripped Into Puddles - 2016-2016
A fairly apt interpretation of what happened to Paper Mario: Color Splash could be. I still think that some things that were shown on the E3 Treehouse Stream were closer (though not identical) to the original and TTYD in terms of quirk, presentation and characterization, than in the lacking reveal. In fact, it seems that the writers are listening to us and trying to make the story worth getting the game in October. Still a shame that the character designs for NPCs are still pretty generic and monotone, but at last there's now real, visible effort to make Prism Island's inhabitants more interesting than saving copies of the same exact Toad throughout what little I've seen of Sticker Star (having yet to play that game). With that said, I now have some more faith that the series CAN return to greatness, though like many great aspirations, the struggle against the intense homogenizing of the Mario spinoffs seems to be intimidating. Then again, there have been more intense struggles that have been won for the good of gaming... just sayin'.

The only thing I love in Color Splash.. The graphics looks really beautiful!! And maybe, the OST will be great too.
But... The pseudo partners is for me... Pathetic... Mamma Mia, I miss the old partners in N64 and GC.. 
Oh.. I listen a Interview at E3.. They are saying... "We are already a Mario RPG.. It's Mario & Luigi" so it's finished the Paper Mario RPG.. D:
