Huzzah, another MerMay pic done! This one was inspired by a discussion with ThanasiaNightfall about what my fan kids for Maddy and Match would look like a mermaids!

For those not familiar with them already (not surprising, since I haven't drawn them in ages :u ), the eldest is Ellie on the far right. Thanasia had suggested a sea snake for her, since Ellie likes knives, so the connecting there is something sharp. In this case an animal with sharp teeth. But thinking about it more, when it comes to biting and sharp teeth, a shark is a fish that's more well known for that, isn't it? Plus it turns out a while ago scientists found sharks that live in an active underwater volcano ! Isn't that amazing?!

The article mentions that reef sharks are among those living in the volcano, so I made Ellie a blacktip reef shark in particular, since it's one of my favorites.

Meanwhile, Kentaro the middle kid on the far left is an octopus! He ends up being a writer as an adult, so y'know, writing ink. And yeah I looked it up, you can use octopus ink for writing ! It's not all that common these days obviously, but still interesting.

And lastly, Aki the youngest child, being held by Maddy in this picture, is just a mix of the parents. Which are lionfish for Maddy and fire goby for Match. A bit boring of a design idea I guess, but it turned out alright imo.

So yeah, this was another lighting practice! It looks nice, but man, it's kinda time consuming. Maybe it won't be as such once I practice a bit more with it. So I'll practice with it, maybe get back to using lighting again starting with my Drawtober drawings for this year. Hopefully.

One last thing, the underwater background I did for this is based on this tutorial ! Turned out better than I expected, ha ha.
