Description
The newly refit USS Enterprise, pressed into service befor her new systems could be tested, approaches a colossal vessel that is headed toward Earth.
V'GER in the episode "In Thy Image" would have looked somewhat different. I've found scant info on the design and am still looking for more. Might try to knock out a model of that version some day.

I've read the rough script. Bees with poison in their stingers? Robotic wolves attacking the crew of the Enterprise? Now that would have been a movie. Might have been too expensive as a pilot two-parter though.

Scripts go through numerous rewrites. Sometimes they can get a bit... Grandiose.
In fact, 'In Thy Image' did not originate as a Star Trek Script, but as a story for the never produced series 'Genesis II' / 'Planet Earth'. Some stories that were originally written for Phase II were 'recycled' into episodes of TNG. 'The Child' being the one that comes right to mind.
