Vehicons: After the Great Autobot-Decepticon War, every Cybertronian, whether they were on Cybertron or elsewhere in space, underwent a process known as the Great Upgrade, which involved shrinking their bulky mechanical parts into smaller, more durable bodies and reconfiguring their metallic structures into more flexible alloys that allowed them to adopt a wider range of alternate modes. But in a shadowy turn of events, megalomaniacal Decepticon scientist Jhiaxus joined forces with the Quintessons, longtime adversaries of the Cybertronian species, and together they combined basic Sentio Metallico with the CNA of Galvatron and Megatronus Prime, one of the first thirteen primes also known as "The Fallen," to create a new race of Cybertronian that could operate without a spark and could also spread a virus that could separate the spark from the body and reformat the latter into a new Vehicon drone. These were a new type of Vehicon that, in contrast to the original ones created during the functionist era, were not constrained by free will and could concentrate on the tasks assigned to them by their masters. While newly upgraded Maximals and Predacons were able to hold off the Vehicons for a while thanks to their new fuel-efficient bodies, the Vehicon army was still too strong to fight against. Times for the newly upgraded Maximals and Predacons became desperate. To battle this danger, Cybertronians had to adopt a brand-new experimental technology known as "Mechanetherium" or beast machine technology, which had been developed by the brilliant Maximal scientist Animus Magno as a means of energy conservation and gave Cybertronians access to a techno-organic beast mode, making them inmune to the virus. Thanks to the leadership of Lio Convoy, Big Convoy, Serket, and Magmatron as well as their new partially organic bodies, the Maximals and Predacons were ultimately able to vanquish the drone army. This victory also brought about the almost total extinction of the Quintessons and the apparent death of Jhiaxus. To prevent this threat from reemerging, the Cybertronian Alliance ordered that all data required for the creation of Vehicon drones be destroyed. However, part of the leftover data was backed up and safely stored by the Tripredacus council, just in case it would be "needed".
