3 out of ??? I CAN'T STOP. HELP ME.At least it's something of a return to my normal style after the last two.
I seem to be getting an unholy amount of inspiration for this contest. :\ I'm sorry if it's getting annoying. This is probably going to be my last entry, but I can't say for sure. But really, I couldn't enter this contest without entering my favorite animal. (yay giraffes~) I dunno if this is strictly allowed, since it involves a plant, but whatever. :V I do what I want.
Anyway, this is a Girybird Trap, or a Girybird. It's a giraffe, a venus flytrap, and just enough lyrebird to get the beak and the vocal ability. Girybirds take the carnivorous trait from venus flytraps, and sit for hours on end in the sun. They release a rotting sort of smell, supplemented by the appearance of raw meat that their backs have, and mimic the cries of dying animals to attract carrion eaters- which they eat in turn via some sort of absorbtion. Girybirds are known to pick over the remains and eat any unabsorbed flesh. I suppose they have two sets of ribs- one normal kind, and one set to support the flytrap bits.
They still have the long black tongue that giraffes do, and neck when fighting.

OH btw, if giraffes are your favorite animal, you should definitely visit the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, CO. They have an open giraffe exibit and you get to feed them. With your hands. :3 I just went today, it was AWESOME. The lettuce costs 2 dollars, but a nice fellow patron gave me a leaf.

It's amazing what can be the first thing you see when visiting the gallery of a person you haven't talked to in ages. XD I definitely was NOT expecting THAT!
So this was for some sort of splicing contest? Good gravy, that may be the single scariest made-up creature I have ever laid eyes on. Thank goodness it only sits around and waits for carrion birds to land on it! I would fear for my life if one of those went rampaging through New York! (Well, not really, since I don't live in New York, but you get my meaning.)
Regardless of the fear it creates in me, the art is fantastic.
And btw, in case you have forgotten me (it HAS been forever), its your trusty repairman of the Urban Pirate Dragons!

ahahaha~ 6u9 The stuff that comes out of my brain is interesting sometimes. It was indeed for a splicing contest! I didn't place, but it was so much fun~ Probably because I spliced with a plant, I'm not sure if that was allowed.
Goodness, even though it's kind of a lethargic predator, I wouldn't make it angry! It can still neck like a normal giraffe, and boy, they're kind of big.

What do they do when they 'neck'? Do they wrap their necks around you or just bludgeon you with their necks?

'Necking' is how giraffes fight, is how I understand it. They stand there and wallop each other with their necks! I imagine the girybird behaves in much the same way, except with a beak.
Gettin jobs, doing freelance, generally trying to save up. xD I'm doing ArtSlam this year again! How's the internship going?

Well-drawn, my friend, and a highly disturbing concept. I mean, even if it is a benign creature to all but what lands on its back, I still do not want to be around it-- especially considering the smell. Again, excellent work. ^^
