Eggman readied his weapons as Sonic and Knuckles approached to attack. They were fighting outside the house, as to reduce any more damage. Sonic evaded laser and Knuckles lunged to punch the Eggman. The hovercraft simply elevated a little and avoided the fist. Sonic leaped in the air and rushed toward Eggman as he began shooting missiles at the hedgehog. Distracted by Sonic,the scientist was punched out of his vehicle by Knuckle's blazing punch. As Eggman hit the ground, he was grabbed and raised by Sonic, who angrily shouted "Where is Shadow? And who were you referring to by 'friend'?"

"H-He… He was going to attack me, so I…" Eggman began, but was interrupted by a cloaked figure that appeared out of nowhere. The figure began to talk as it threw Sonic away and lifted Eggman "Doctor Ivo Robotnik, I presume? I need you to come with me. I need your…" he was interrupted by Sonic, who was about to kick the figure. "Who the hell are you?" He yelled, and Knuckles joined him with a punch. The robed man simply blocked both attacks with his arms, and then raised a hand. "Just call me 'Darkness'. Now stop interfering." it said as a black spark began coming from its hand, then forming a black energy ball, similar to the one the Necros Emerald formed. Once ready, he threw the ball at Sonic and Knuckles and exploded with a force strong enough to take out both his opponents, who fell unconscious. "Now, where was I?" He said as he drew closer to Eggman again "Ah, yes. If you please, doctor." A black portal formed below his feet, and the figure and Eggman disappeared along with the portal. Everyone else exited the house and attended the fallen heroes.

"What happened?" asked Tails when Sonic and Knuckles began regaining consciousness. They were resting in a bed, with a table with tea on its side, inside the house. "Man… Who was that guy?" said a dizzy Sonic. "I thought Eggman was no biggie for you, Sonic dear." said Amy, changing the bandages on Sonic's head. "Damn it!" cursed Knuckles, punching the wall "That Eggman; I'll beat him up good.". "Could you please tell us what happened? We may be in a really big problem if we don't get that jewel back." pressured Blumiere; Timpani took his side.

"We were handling Eggman pretty well. Then, out of nowhere, this guy called 'Darkness' shows up and beats Knuckles and me, then takes Eggman away." Sonic told "Do you know this Darkness guy?". "Hmm. Not really; but this sounds bad. There is a chance he is after the jewel, so we need to find it fast!" answered Blumiere "Maybe the king can help us…".

"The king? As in 'kingdom'?" asked Sonic, a little confused. "Yes. We are in the great kingdom of Halla, and Blumiere is a friend of the king!" answered Timpany. "We will go to Halla Castle tomorrow morning. We will prepare the guest room so you can rest and be ready tomorrow. I need to make preparations, so if you'll excuse me…" said Blumiere, then exited the room.

The next day, after everyone ate breakfast, the journey to Halla Castle began; Blumiere took out a staff with a blue jewel on it. He raised the staff and the jewel began to shine and everyone disappeared. In the blink of an eye, the plains turned into a walled garden and a castle.

"That's it? We warped? I thought we were going by foot!" Sonic complained. "If the situation weren't critical, we would have. I don't like using this staff, it brings bad memories. Anyways, welcome to Halla Castle!". Soldiers came from the castle entrance and surrounded everyone, then one of them said "Oh, Count Blumiere! We weren't expecting you. What brings you to the castle?" "We urgently need to speak with the king. Please let us in." "Of course. Right this way, please." Everyone followed the soldiers inside the castle. Once inside, they were lead to the throne room, where an old man was sitting. He was wearing a golden armor, with a red cape covering his back. In his head stood a black crown; in his waist, a sheathed sword. He had silver hair and short beard, and looked happy to see Blumiere and Timpani.

"My king, I need your help." said Blumiere while kneeling to the king. "Blumiere, you fool. How many times do I have to tell you? Just call me Cervantes, we are friends, not master and servant. Ha ha hah! Blumiere, Lady Timpani, it's been a long time!" answered the energetic king. "Everyone, I'd like you to meet King Cervantes, ruler of the Halla Kingdom." introduced Blumiere. "Har har! Ruler my ass! I am merely the supervisor, this kingdom rules itself. Anyways, what brings you here?" "Well, to make it short, it's about the treasure of you know who." The king's smiling face turned to a serious, almost frightened, expression.
