CHAPTER 2

"James! What the hell is that thing?" Rose shouted at the top of her lungs.

"I just said.... His name is Basium, latin for kiss... I thought it fit." James said in a calm and soothing voice, still petting the creature who had been slightly startled by Rose's screaming.

"Fit!?! I don't even think that thing has lips! How the hell could you think that fit!?" Rose said with some exaserbation in her breath.

"Because as soon as he came out of his shell, he nudged my cheek as if to kiss me. Besides a few spots where it's markings cross remind me of kiss marks." James said, still as calm as before.

Just then, the small creature began to rub Rose's right hand with it's face, making the same purring sound as it did with James. Rose looked down at the creature, still questioning as to why the hell was it in her house. She tilted her head back up to James and asked "James? Where did this thing come from? And more importantly what exactly is it?"

James then remarked in with a tinge of bewilderment "It came out of the Gyaos Generator! It seemed that a hundred or even more so files from you're lab's computer flashed upon the screen! They mixed with the files on mine, then, with the largest burst of burst of plasma I've ever seen.... Basium appeared!"

"But what on Earth possesed you to bring it home?" Rose remarked with a bit of worry and curiosity.

"Well I figured since that our positions as of late have prohibited us from having children, due to the fact of us having little free time..... That.... Well.... Maybe a pet would be nice for now. I mean this creature was in a way created by the two of us, so I guess filling the role as a child wouldn't be to far off." James said with a smile and optimism in his voice.

Rose responded with "Well, it does appear to be pretty tame, and as you said we can't have children at the moment. So.... Why not?"

James immediately lept off his chair and hugged her shouting many thank yous. James' parents never allowed him to have a pet growing up, so finnaly hearing a yes filled him with much joy! Then, looking down toward James' chest, Rose saw his pendant, it had been oddly scorched. Rose then yelled "James Poal Tyrious! What in the world happened to you're necklace!"

James told her the whole story in an embarassed tone of voice while scratching the back of his head. Calming her fury, they began reminicing on how James had hand dug, and carved the rare Atlantean stones to make the necklace when they were first dating to prove how much he loved her. The night then ended as it did the previous night.

The next day on the Atlantean shuttlerail system, which was a vast monorail like network of transportation. James, Rose, and Basium sat in thier own car on thier way to work. For noone else wanted to even be near that odd little creature. In thier seats James asked "What do you call this thing again?", holding a small, brown, curved piece of material that resembled half of a taijitu, twisting his wrist back and forth to get a good look at it.

"Its a Linkstone." Rose said, answering his question.

"Linkstone huh? What does it do?" James remarked obviously puzzled.

"Its still in the expieramental stages but I believe, that with the right technology, two living beings may be able to be linked psychicly, thus increasing their tactical effeciency in combat. Well thats what I tell my benefactors. My ultimate purpose for these is to build tighter bonds between all living beings, so that we can live a much more harmonious life." Rose said with a normal voice that turned to joyous one.

"You always were a peace loving one Rose." James said as the Shuttlerail pulled to a stop. "Well this is where I get off, come Basium." Waving goodbye to Rose, her knowing that she would take him to her job tommorrow.

The day was pretty much a normal day for James, except for the fact of trying to feed Basium at lunch. Basium would not except any food offered him. Which was a shame, because James really wanted to understand HOW it ate. Later on as the sun began to set, Basium had gone missing, sending James into a panic! As if that wasn't enough a standard Gyaos had escaped from it's pen and was flying wildly about the large test room.... James would not have gone in there.... If he knew that the Gyaos was..... Searching the large room full of beakers, test tubes, rafters, columns, and a large balcony for Basium was no easy task. After ascending the stairs to the large balcony which was for the lab's benfactors to observe where exactly thier money was going to, James spotted Basium looking over the edge making an odd cooing sound. Calling to Basium, James stood frozen as the large, winged figure of the Gyaos rose up in front of them. Staring at Basium, the Gyaos was just about to devour the small creature........ But suddenly Basium stood up on large black and red tentacles, easily towering over James twice! Even more tentacles erupted from it's shell and penetrated the Gyaos' thick hide with sharp hooks. Then like a parasite draining blood from it's host, the Gyaos began to appear as if it's very insides were being sucked out like a juice through a straw. James could see large welts appear moving along Basium's tentacles in a fashion not unlike that of a snake swallowing it's prey. When Basium was finnaly finished with it's macabre deed, the dry husk of the Gyaos wafted to the ground like nothing more than a feather. Turning to face James, Basium let out a shrill cry, and without warning split in half! Emerging from the old shell was a new, larger, and more frightening creature than ever before seen by James. It appeared very much like a standard Gyaos, except for the fact is was almost three times the size, and having a helmet like face, body with similar markings to it's previous form and large lance-like structures on it's wing tips. James, still in shock by the whole ordeal almost screamed when Basium set its head down, ushering James to pet it. And with a smile and a slight laugh, James remarked "Guess you're not going to work with mommy tommorrow!"

Basium 2nd form Powers:

1. Black Scream: Like a standard Gyaos scream except it emits black energy as well.

2. Flight at mach 5

3. Can calculate complex aireal manuevers

4. Violet surge: Purple markings glow and release a small amount of energy, providing a shield, and giving Basium an adrenaline rush.

Edit: Darkend him in slightly as to show that he is a dark black, but not so much as to obscure detail.
