It's funny; the mammalian one was, iirc, discovered before Sordes was discovered; the guy who came up with it just kind of...assumed that pterosaurs were furry and warm-blooded and thus, could not have been reptiles, so he depicted them as mammals.
And years later, he was semi-vindicated! Pterosaurs were indeed furry and warm-blooded...they just weren't mammals!

It wasn't really assumed to have fur it's because when they discovered Sordes there were traces of "coats with a thickness comparable to many Mesozoic mammals"

Oops my mistake! I've seem to have gotten my dates mixed up, statement redacted. Originally described as an aquatic animal because of its look for supporting membranes then changed to a flying reptile and then some Samual Thomas dude thought (Along with a lot of other people) that birds were mammals that lost some of their features and pterosaurs were ancestral forms of birds? At least we don't have the restorations of the colugo looking ones anymore.

Ah, nice to have things cleared up then!
I had no idea Samuel Thomas came up with that thinking birds and pterosaurs were mammals, though! It's strange to see how far things have come, isn't it?

huh. For a Peters reconstruction, that's surprisingly conservative

Yeah, no gonna lie but I was going to add it more of its characteristic and extravagant ornaments but I decided to preserve it as in the silhouette Β which is very conservative, and keeping theΒ awkward postureΒ

No, I think you're thinking of John Faa. David Peters is different. And better, if you'll believe it.

During the 1800 Pterodactylus had someΒ interpretations due to the weirdeness of such new creature for scientist, which included this flying marsupial mammal form
