Description
comments are greatly appreciated!Based on something I built in Minecraft. It's completely and totally disproportional, obviously, because if the trees are that big and the birds that small, then the grass at the base would have to be like six feet tall or something.
Also, that bottom bit is not a tree trunk, it's some sort of stone pire. I understand that the execution can be misleading.
This is actually very small compared to most of my paintings. I typically use a whole- or half-sheet, but this is a quarter-sheet. The grass at the bottom was a bit difficult to paint!
I've also been thinking about art supplies recently, and how the supplies don't make the artist. The brushes I use are mostly Loew-Cornell, which I think are kind of expensive (watercolor brushes in general just cost a lot, I think) but I always use my totally cruddy Crayola paints. I use Crayola colored pencils (the limited 12-pack) too, which are super-cruddy, and I don't think my art's all that bad.
It's a bit like how some MS Paint artists are fluffing fantastic while some of us sit around pretending we know how Photoshop works, lol.
(also I don't know if this is Landscapes and Scenery or Surreal, so I'm going with the latter category for now)
Other watercolor:
Drawn in pencil. Painted with Crayola watercolor paints (dark green, medium green, dark brown, black, and sky blue) on cold-press watercolor paper.
5.5 by 7.5 inches.
Minecraft is not mine, but the art is.

Overall
Vision
Originality
Technique
Impact
The first two things I love about this are cut-and-dry.
1. The inspiration came from a Minecraft adventure. (misadventure?)
2. I have a soft spot for originality and beauty through simplicity.
And here is why I love this individual deviation:
The level of absurdity here is genius-comic. The sheer concept and idea strikes a balance between overly absurd and ingeniously simple, and its depiction is nothing short of beautiful. It has attractively contrasting elements (nature's spontaneous form vs. rigid manmade design) and it feels so REAL! Logic tells me otherwise, but I like to look at this and picture it existing somewhere in the world!
This is the sort of thing I'd love to hang a framed print of in an office, with a cheesy tagline attached (e.g. "Think outside the box").
I want to thank the creator from the bottom of my heart, because they have truly created a masterpiece for me to bear witness to.

Thank you very much for the critique!
(I apologize for such a late reply, as I've been a bit busy lately.)
Ever since this image popped into my mind I hadn't been able to get away from it, because it appealed to me for some reason. Thank you so much for describing what makes you like it, because I think those elements of the idea are what really drove me to paint it. You put my own subconscious thoughts into words, almost perfectly, and it also shows that the sort of whimsical beauty that I wanted to convey to the viewer was acheived.
You're certainly welcome, and I thank you again for translating the painting into written word in such a lovely critique. This made my day.
(also, on a side note, your icon looks eerily similar to a friend I have in real life. Upon visiting your page I realize that you don't look as much like him as I'd thought, but the icon's resemblance is still really interesting.)

No problem! Doing fancy things with my words is what I love to do! And I totally understand, we're all busy. BUT, great art is never appreciated in a hurry, and a true deviant has much patience.
I think sandbox games are just brilliant in that they give us so much opportunity to make our own fun, create our own world, and capture excitement and beauty in ways that were previously unattainable, or even unimaginable!
This is a great example, because it's so easily rendered in-game, but it conveys and inspires such a powerful message!
I'm glad you felt similarly about it. Great minds think alike, you know.
You're very welcome for my blurb about your painting, and I'm glad my thoughts were at least semi-coherent to someone other than myself.
(Also, on a side note to that side note, I do find that very interesting. It's probably just coincidence, but I've never been told that I look like someone else, or remind someone of another person. First time for everything! Yeah! )
So, Minecraft, eh?

Yay! Thank you ;u;
I think it's weird that so many people like this, because while it is one of my favorites, it really was a side project that I worked on to keep myself entertained while I waited for parts of a larger watercolor to dry.

It's a surreal landscape and scenery. So, how did you draw the square?
Good job.

Thank you!
lol, I see what you did there. ;3 I drew the top and bottom first, because I wanted it centered, then the sides.

That's fantastic.
You are so ridiculously talented... ;u; The colors are beautifully executed; you obviously have quite some skill with a paint brush.
And I didn't know you had a Minecraft. xD
