Description
The Aqilas dragon is perhaps the second master of the five species of Shalohman dragons. This dragon appears as a fierce feline with the wings of an insect, horns of a ram, and the brows of an owl yet it is the most gentle and unusual of the five dragons.

The Aqilas dragon roams the earth as his brethren does but prefers the deep oceans as its home. Their bonded Drachen partners live in the sea with them and may not rise to the surface for years at a time. The Aqilas dragons are also highly intuitive hence the association with the deep space (space being a symbol of wisdom and profoundness to the Drachens in my novel)

This was a mid-term project for a photoshop class. This particular class is a newbie class (but I have to take it for my program) though I have been using photoshop for years. The project was to make a "monster" by splicing multiple photographs and then retouching with various tools and effects. Needless to say I was not satisfied with basic requirements so I pushed my limits. I really enjoyed this project.

There will NOT be a print of this since one of the donors said that since her stock photo was taken at a zoo, the photo cannot be used for any commercial purposes (at least that particular zoo). I'll respect it even if I don't like it (because I really would love to make a print of this! It's my best piece for print!)

This image was loosely inspired by 's beautiful space/water themed art. Mind you, I did not use her images or even use them as references. I loved the concept since it was something that I personally had ideas about as well. Ever since I was little I have loved the concept of putting elements of the heavens and Earth together (such as bodies of water, forests, etc). Nova hand paints ALL parts of her pieces (as far as I'm aware) via photoshop so more kudos to her. Here's an example of her gorgeous work: [link]
