Description The first in a series of 3 tutorials Imma' be doing. People have been attacking me with questions like rabid weasels lately so's I figured I should probably try to give something back to this wonderful online community anyways. I'm about three years overdue.

I'm Trying to make these as noob-freindly as possible, because I remember when I was there, and I remember how confusing everything could get.

So, Enjoy! And if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask! I'll be making a coloring tutorial next, don't worry.

-------------

This is not the only way to do this. This is simply the way I do. I encourage you to seek out other methods and tutorials and play with it, because that's the best way to learn!

(PS: Isolating lineart means that you make the lines on a seperate layer so you can color underneath them and stuff.)

(resubmit real quick )

Edit: I've since changed versions of photoshop that I use, but this method still works exactly the same in CS2 and beyond.

Just wanted to say 'thanks!' real quick for this tutorial. I always love drawing images by hand first and then coloring under/over it. But I always have trouble isolating the lineart like I want to... who knew it was so easy? XD

Thanks again!

ChristopherMiller [2008-05-25 15:45:25 +0000 UTC]

This is a great tutorial but i have a sort of off topic question...What size are you sketches normally? Are they large and in a sketchbook or do you mainly use doodle sized drawings?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

drak In reply to ChristopherMiller [2008-05-25 23:20:38 +0000 UTC]

I usually prefer larger drawings. I used to work with normal 8.5x11 but my favorite now is a big fat 11x14 book. Scanning those i I usually color them at 300dpi.

Hope that answered your question

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChristopherMiller In reply to drak [2008-05-26 01:37:22 +0000 UTC]

It does and it reassures me in my use of 300dpi scannage.

I'm confused, once I press the 'load channel as a selection' then push Delete, then Ctrl+D, my now white picture goes all checkered instead of my picture showing up. What am I doing wrong?
