First Dolly and now Snow , such a pretty spotty buckskin mare. Taysom was rolling in nice horses to ride on his roster for the duration of the show. He was starting to think it was pretty nice all the other riders were knocked out. The thought was fleeting, however, as he was much more of a people person and did enjoy the throngs of them all together. For now, he’d check off this task for the boss lady.
It was astounding to him that Snow didn’t get ridden nearly as much as the other horses. She was owned by RidgeRunner but she was on lease to the boarders and those that came to take lessons. Everyone only had positive things to say about the mare. But so often, she went unused. If one of the riders should get serious about competing on Snow, Taysom had no doubts they could do very well.
She was such a clean mover. Her breed fed into her natural instincts to time her movements with the beat of the peppy music Taysom had chosen. It was an incredible feeling to be on her back, cantering down the rail, landing her leads in time with the music. Maybe people like Chris would have a better appreciation for Dressage if they had opportunities like this to ride such polished horses!
As soon as Taysom exited the ring, he made for the stud barn, leading Snow along the way. “Chris!” He saw the boy flinch before turning to look at whoever was shouting for him. “Come ride this horse! She’ll show you what Dressage is supposed to be like!”
Chris cringed at the word and turned back to collecting his tack up from his disaster of a Dressage performance.
“C’mon!” Taysom entered the barn to pursue him. A round of whinnies sounded off as the mare cautiously walked behind Taysom. What on earth was she being pulled into? “She’s a super nice ride. I just think you ought to-”
“I’ve ridden Dressage horses before, Taysom. It’s just not my thing.”
“But like, really nice ones!”
“Yea. I’ve ridden ‘really nice ones’,” he air quoted since that was a matter of opinion. He had ridden a good half a dozen or so with all the fancy tricks and moves either under Tristan or for another stable that needed a hand. He had been there, tried that, hated it.
“But…” Taysom sighed and held up his hands. “Okay, okay, I get it. But if you ever change your mind, Snow is your gal.”
“You got a new girlfriend?” Ty came tromping down the aisle. He was roaming the grounds to fend off his boredom. He didn’t have any classes today so he spent his time ogling the other horses and caught wind of the conversations.
“What?” Chris wrinkled his nose.
“No, no, no,” Taysom clarified with a chuckle. “I was trying to hook him up with this gal to ride,” he gestured to Snow.
“Oooh, she’s super cute! Does she jump too?”
Taysom grinned, seeing his new target to leech onto. “...c’mere Ty, I want to show you what she can do.” And Ty wasn’t heard from again for the rest of the day. Some say Taysom is still pitching his ad speech to this day.
