Description
Work commissioned by *Austerberry , I was to draw his character, Maxii, in human form, and then make her into several animal forms.From left to right:
Human, Panda, Rhino, Shark, Scorpion
(For her shark and scorpion forms, I drew the tails and claw on a separate sheet of paper, then scanned it in and merged it with her lines. Colouring, markings and shading done in Photoshop Elements 6, no textures used.)
I enjoyed doing this, pretty different from what I've attempted before. It was fun to use Photoshop, too. c:

That is a bit strange, isn't it? |: Actually, given the amazing varieties of species that exist on Earth, I don't think there are nearly enough insect/arachnid based characters around. Of course, I don't really have an active one, myself, so maybe I shouldn't be making such comments.

Yeah, definitely; I guess it's because some still have the kind of "ewww, bugs" stance on them or something. Though maybe that's not really it at all. 
I have got an insect based character myself, although I haven't drawn him much at all. Massively neglected under all my other characters, haha.

That could be part of it, yeah... mammalian species tend to be more expressive, and thus relatable to us as well.
Hmm, is that so? I'd be curious to see him if you ever do feel like drawing him again. c:
I actually have a species concept that was for my Levels universe, but I've been a bit on the fence on using aquatic/insectoid/et cetera species there.
...I seem to be thinking about my old concepts and characters a lot recently.

That's true. In a way, the appearances of insects is almost alien in comparison to mammalian species.
I'll try finish off the sketch I have of him, in that case. X3 I've been itching to make a finished piece featuring him for some time as it is and this talk of the rarity of insect-y characters has really made me want to hurry up with that, lol.
And maybe you might be able to use it for something else, if not for that. It's sometimes crazy how recyclable some ideas can be. So something's opened the doorway recently for all the old concepts to come through? XD

Yes... I've actually been thinking, since talking about them, that I do want to have some work on the species up, even if it's standalone. I still remember their physiology, and way of life... I did put a fair bit of thought into it a while back.
I don't know. XD I seem to be wanting to flesh out a lot more of my concepts and really get to work on building my worlds and elaborating on my characters and everything, lately. For some reason, some very old ideas are popping up alongside that, and I'm seeing the merit in them. As you said, some ideas can be very recyclable. c:

Doing Maxii's shark form actually reminded me of a character I drew when I was younger (like, nine or ten) that was an squid/mermaid/sea monster... thing.
I'm kind of wanting to draw her again, just for fun.
