Great job on the color, I wish I could figure out how to blend colors with marker, what brand of marker do you use ?

Thanks a lot! I typically use Copic markers, but I also have a bunch of Tria and Prisma that I mix in. The colorless blender in the Copic set works fairly well for blending, but for the best results, you just need to get the hang of working quickly, wet-into-wet, with values that are close together in range.

absolutely brilliant, i love your texture right down to the folds in the cape. and hes so stark next to the color of the background.
if you wouldnt mind telling me is there a difference between copic markers and prisma markers and if there is whats the technique?

Wow, thanks for the kind words!!! I really appreciate it!

There isn't a huge difference between Copic, Prisma and Tria, but if you're picky about the subtleties, there are a few that I've noticed.

If you're doing a really clean render on marker paper, then Copic seems to blend a little better than Prisma, and Tris is pretty comparable to Copic. Prisma is just fine, though, but it feels it doesn't go down as cleanly.

If you're using any sort of art board (ie. bristol, watercolor, etc.) then I would recommend Copic and Tria because they don't seem to bleed as much as Prisma. They will still bleed, so you need to be careful that you have a good understanding of the nature of each marker as you use them.

If you're using your markers on regular paper for quick sketches or laser copy paper for more finished sketches, then any of the three are fine. In this case, it all boils down to how the weight and contour of the marker feel in your hands.

As for color hue and saturation; I like the selection that Copic and Tria has, over Prisma. They have similar colors, but it feels like Copic is more saturated and true, with Tria following closely behind.

Bottom line: Copic and Tria are my personal preference. But that's what works for me. I would highly recommend buying a selection of different colors from each brand and see how they work out for you. Even now, I still mix-n-match all three brands because I like the way one color works, for instance, in Copic, while a Prisma may look better than Copic, and so on. Just build a marker palette that works for you!

I hope that helps!

I'm not sure if I'm going to finish this one. Usually, if I spend too much time away from a sketch, I won't go back to it. I think that might be a bad habit of mine.

But thank you for taking the time to comment!
