The Astra Militarum/Imperial Guard have a lot of tanks. Maybe a little too many tanks, but got to love tanks. The problem with tanks is that they are slow and can be cumbersome, and unusable in difficult terrain. If the Guardsmen are lucky, they got Knight support. And the Knight Houses have all the mechs to support both Guardsmen, Astartes, and Titans as the link between infantry and artillery as a walking tank. But considering how few Knights and Titans there are considering the trillions-strong Astra Militarum, I think they need more support when all they have are a lightly armored Sentinel and the Armoured Sentinel as their only bipedal war machines, the latter simply a little more durable with a better weapon. So what's the best solution? Well, make a bigger and more heavily armored and armed Sentinel. Guardsmen have medium, heavy, and super-heavy battle tanks, why not do the same to a Sentinel.

On the forge world of Terminus Caelum within the Ultima Segmentum was a ambitious magos known as Heironymo Alpha Lucius Emrick. With Belisarius Cawl's innovativeness sweeping through the Adeptus Mechanicus, Emrick decides to give it a shot. Initially designing a new Knight, Terminus Caelum is suddenly garrisoned by several divisions of Guardsmen due to a growing threat of the Ork Empire of Charadon breaking out. As a act of goodwill, Emrick invites several regiments into his forge-city to speak with the commanders of a type of Knight that would be more supportive of the baseline human infantry. His friendliness has him invited to join them in acts of consuming intoxicating alcohol that results in the still-mostly human magos becoming wildly inebriated. Next thing he knows, he wakes up with a massive headache and had apparently submitted his newest design to his manufactorums already to produce several battalions of a new bipedal walker. It took him some time to realize instead of a Knight, he created a two-manned Sentinel with heavier armor and more weapon points. This was when the Arch-Arsonist invaded with a sizeable WAAAGH!. As orks poured into Emrick's forge-city the first battalion of Heavy Sentinels have been completed. Guardsmen were given a crash course with only a couple of hours of training before being let loose. The results were nothing short of spectacular, despite not being as nimble or as fast as a Sentinel the Heavy Sentinel kept pace amongst charging infantry and provided heavy covering fire from above whether alone or in a squadron of three or four, shrugging off heavy fire only a tank usually survives and blasting down at the ork formations that would have slaughtered the Guardsmen in a melee.

Within months, Terminus Caelum was cleansed with more and more Heavy Sentinels quickly produced to walk amongst the infantry. The Arch-Arsonist was soon expelled from the sector and forced to return to his empire. Emrick for his achievement of creating the Heavy Sentinel was elevated to be a serious candidate to next rule Terminus Caelum with Roboute Guilliman's personal blessings and congratulations. Emrick could only sigh, he needed a drink.
