This picture represents one of their Warriors/Drones and from the appearance we can clearly see that Xenomorphs were their inspiration (because of the head) as well as them being completely aquatic.

Whatever, Vortex Aliens can hybridize with other lifeforms as well to create more efficient means of serving their huge Queen that maybe looks like it`s just a head, but maybe she`s more than just a head ... she might be like a Drone, but 10 times bigger.

And like Xenomorphs, she is the most intelligent one and all other Vortex Aliens are her children, but nevertheless, they`re smart enough to apparently bio-engineer things, swiftly adapt to new places, harvest life and can make a weapon that can obliterate the entire city the size of Atlantis as well how to produce electricity.

Nowadays they`re apparently ancestors of arthropods and thus extinct in their original forms.
