Well well well, what do we have here?
A new base?Oh yes indeed!
This one was made as a favor to kagefan-121 and this time, unlike others, it has been updated as well. Optimal additions like the back appendages, elbow spikes and the 2nd jaw are now having their own specific lineart color, so that you can easily remove them withot much damage to the main base and if you wish your Praetorian to have them, well, just color their lines black and he/she shall have them again!
Also, since the accounts on this strain/evolution of Xenomorph are quite differing, I went with the next interpretation:-> Bigger than a Drone/Warrior
-> Upper body (head, back appendages) looks like a Queen without the 2nd pair of arms
-> Lower body looks like a buff Warrior
-> Tail is Warrior-like except the end where it`s Queen-like
Thus if you think that the Praetorian looks different, why not show me by altering the base itself?
As with other bases I have, it`s free-to-use, it`s suitable for MS Paint + GIMP users and it has the same set of rules as well:
Don`t frankendoll (mix other dolls/bases with this one)
Don`t remove the sig - it`s the proof that you`re not stealing it.
If you gonna make Xeno adoptables using this, don`t sell them for real money.
Show me your creations in comments, so I can see them
Go ahead and pimp it, color/remove its optimal appendages, change the blades/spikes/paws/head, make it HD, make it into Warrior/Queen/Drone, anything

Dang, talk about one heck of a predatory beast there. Also, speaking of recoloring lines, do you use MS Paint here and do you know about recoloring lines via eraser and all?

Then this will make recoloring lines that much more easier for you. The trick is that in the eraser`s primary color box (aka left-mouse-click), you select the color that you want to erase (take for instance the purple-blue lines on the Xeno`s back) and in the secondary color box (right-mouse-click), you select the new color you wish to change the primary-colored lines in, like for instance red or black ... and then erase the color you wish to replace with the secondary color by right-clicking and holding the right-click while you`re erasing the color you wish to erase from the line. Seriously, it`s almost like magic on smaller images.

Nice base of the Praetorian, I allways wondered if they were inspired by Omega Metroids who had a similar role, and both were the penultimate stage before the Queen strage of their species. Which would have stuff go full circle in terms of inspiration, seeing Metroid was strongly inspired by the Alien franchise.
Althoigh it's very possible the very concept of Praetorian in fully is fully isnpired from previous species of a sub-queen "super Xeomorph", like especially the Palatine (not to mention, Roman themed like the Praetorians), and the Chrysalis Xenomorphs from Konami's and Capcom's arcade games. The "King Alien" concept present in comics, toys, and the early version of the Newborn from Alien 4, all might be also an influence, especially that some sources claim it's Praetorians who impregnate the Queen.
This may seem odd, as it's also claimed and shown Praetorians can further develop into queens, but various sources, including H.R. Giger(R.I.P.) himself stated Xenomporhs are hermaphrodites.(in the sense he designed the original one, as one).

I wouldn`t surprised at all that Praetorian Xenos would be inspired by Omega Metroids and vice versa, kind of like how the Vortex Aliens from Ecco The Dolphin series were inspired by the former (Xenomorphs) as well, only that the latter are pretty much world-devouring aquatic versions of them, especially after you look at their Warrior Drones that appear in Tides of Time: eccothedolphin.wikia.com/wiki/…
Thus it kind of answers why are the accounts differing so much when it comes to this specific strain/life cycle (if we can call it that) of Xenomorphs, since there is just so much confusion, you really cannot accurately pinpoint where do they belong and when do they appear ... and whenever or not they`re the final stage before maturing into a Queen like some games show (Six of Aliens VS Predator game, I`m looking at you). It almost seems like Praetorians are just there because the others wished to be there unlike for more legit reasons like mating and such (as seen from the various insect species that mimic the Xenos closely, like termites), especially with them being hermaphrodites according to Giger himself, as this raises just so many possibilities of them reproducing, even the most backward theories that were applied to nature work as well (and with that, I totally mean one strain of wasp, whose entire population is essentially female-only).

And there is is also Ridley Scott's director cut version, were the Alien reproduces via transforming others into Aliens, similary to Zerg in Starcraft:

Which fit's how it was Prometheus, before it got digitally edited, with the Black Oil containing organic nanoconstructs, which reconstructed humans as xenomorphs:

In the original script, Fifield was actually supposed to fully mutate into a albino xenomorph.
This ties Engineers/Space Jokeys, and Humanity all together. Which may be what Ridley Scott intended. The Space Jokey's suit being thought to be the Engineer's actuall form, may be a call back to the cartoon, Peace on Earth, were animals that outlived humanity, think a human in a gass mask, represents how actually humans looked, when we existed, as one of the critters says:
"As I remember them, they were great big beasts with long snouts that went into their stomachs!"
And the Space Jokey's form, was specifically designed to resemble a human in a gass mask. The similarities are too big, for it to an accident on Rifley Scott's part, so I think he intended the Space Jokeys to be human-like all along:

That too and man, that would actually be the excellent addition if it weren`t so nightmarish in the 1st place because seriously, turning people into Ovomorphs slowly like this? Yeah, I can totally imagine Scott getting bashed against a wall for that, thus he cut it out from the original movie. Even though yes, this still validates the possibility that when there is no Queen, those Aliens can actually turn other life into their own Ovomorphs in order to spread around more efficiently. Again, when there is no Queen.
Yikes, this can actually answer why does the Xeno from the original Alien also having a human-like skull hidden within its own dome: www.heycomputer.com/alhead.jpg Too bad they had to go with the Deacon because seriously, this scene right here would fit the rest of the Alien films like a missing puzzle piece and it brings all new perspectives in how we see this really terrifying, yet intriguing creature, since this also suggests that their DNA-reflection we can see in numerous other Xenos (like The Runner) came from this kind of source and that this is the reason Engineers/Space Jockeys then lost control over them once they really multiplied in numbers, especially if they made them as bio-weapons in the 1st place, which is a big no-no in my book because you never know when can this weapon turn against you right there in the place. Burrrrr~
Very interesting and speaking of animals thinking of humans like that, something is telling me that the directors of this cartoon definitely thought that WW2 (because it was made in 1930s) would be one really huge poisonous gas attack (which I totally don`t blame them because look at WW1 and how much poisonous gases they used to a terrifying effect. Damn!) that would end humanity as we know it and thus they probably remember humans as creatures we would call "a human in a gasmask". But as for the call-back to this cartoon with the Engineer`s actual form seen in Alien ... wow, now that is really subtle and really powerful both, since in both cases, humanity is pretty much screwed by the very nature they tried to repress/abuse ("repress" in Peace On Earth and "abuse" in Alien, only swap humans with Engineers in the latter). We`re Not So Different from Engineers after all~

Indeed, in the original script, the Prometheus movie was supposed to be a direct prequell to the Alien movie, with the Engineer/Space Jokey's corspe found by the crew in the first movie, was supposed to be corpse of the Engineer, after Daecon, or "the-Prot-Xenomorph/Proto-Ovimorph" hatched from him.
Engineers are indeed a mirror of humanity, showing humanity's possible future. Indeed, Engineer and human DNA were stated to be nigh identical, aside from some differences, like the Engineers height, lack of hair, and persumably differently devoped brain. Which isn't a big change in DNA, but with big effects. Modern humans, would probably view, and be viewed as pretty alien in terms of psychology by Homo Sapiens Sapens from before more than 70 000 years, despite the diferences in DNA being microscopic.
The Alien in the first movie, is noted to be very big for Drone(due actor in the suit being 6' 10" tall). My theory is that sensing it was alone, it started to gain mass in order to faster transform into a Praetorian or even Queen, but the process takes time, so it developed the mentioned alternate form of producing xenomorphs, via transforming other species directly. It's possible one Xenomorph cannot alone become a queen or praetorian, as possibly a xenomorph must consume hormones from corpses of other drones/warriors, in order to beging the transformation into a praetorian, and then Queen, unless of course born from a Queen or Praetorian Facehugger, which I guess causes the host to produce the hormones needed to make transformation of a chestbuster directly into a praetorian or queen.

Too bad they couldn`t make it so because of bloody Executive Meddling and all, since in that case, it would definitely be another movie to place between all those cult classics, no joke. So much Missed Opportunities and those producers messing with the screenwriters~ -.-;
Completely, or to translate this into the future, the people that will change so much because of DNA mutations would be seen as completely alien by people like you and me ... and vice versa as well if I dare imagine that. I can totally see this happening, Engineers being the humans of the future and still presumed to be "alien" because of how we perceive them to be (and how they perceive us to be as well). Which could definitely cause all the ruckus the movie shows, like using us as test subjects and all. O_o;
Yeah ... or having to be exposed to the Queen`s Royal Jelly if there is any of that stuff around. As for your theory, it actually makes lots of sense, especially after we see what did the Predalien from AvP: Requiem do in order to multiply its numbers, even if it`s all sorts of Nightmare Fuel. I mean, changing people into Ovomorphs by the original Alien or implanting Alien embryos directly through the 2nd mouth into pregnant women by the Predalien? Yeeeaaaahhh, I can totally see the similarities there.
