I tried to go with a more anime-ish line style with this one, especially since I have a difficult time with this character's face.

This is also a contest entry for the Anime Artists United group - the theme was on new life, hope, rebirth.

I chose this character because he's very much a survivior.

When we talk about rebirth and hope, especially these days, it's very easy to think of the recent disaster in Japan... and one thing Japan is famous for is the prodction of Anime/Manga, and all the crazy awesome things that are in it...

And one of my favorite themes in anime is vampires. Vampire Knight, Blood +, Trinity Blood, etc. And my character Ambrosius is my favorite character to depict as one. I didn't make him entirely vampiric, but I gave him some traits.

The arrow head is a symbol I associate with the character and the world Laurasia which he inhabits. Also, more generally - determination and a swift course.

The moon rising tends to make me think of dreams, magic and mystery, and, in this case, the fact that it's often darkest before dawn. The giant moon is also a callback to old - classic - anime, like Inuyasha and Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z.
