Description Hello!

Yay, this one is on time and with a couple of hours to spare! Who would have thought?!

Representing day #12 of October, Villain Month, I give you Raphael the Raven of Yoshi's Island fame, as he appears after you make him angry by ramming a pole into his bum (basically) by using your but stomp.

This is a pretty accurate representation of this boss battle, down to the star placement, since it was referenced from a screenshot I took back when I used to play games on emulators (I don't do that so often anymore). This boss battle, while not particularly difficult, was really unique in that the stage you fought on was that tiny little ball. You and Raphael could run all around the ball and never fall off, almost as if this very battle was the precursor to Super Mario Galaxy. When fighting Raphael, it was easy to get dizzy because as you ran, the background would move causing everything to turn upside-down. It's difficult to explain, so go find a copy of this game somehow and get to this boss battle so you can experience it!

Yoshi's Island is a beautiful game that really stands the test of time in sprite animation and art style, so much so that the sequel found on the DS looks almost exactly the same. By the way, the DS game is really hard and I've never actually managed to beat it yet, so if you're looking for a challenge, be sure to pick that one up.

Anyway, I hope you like it and I'll see you tomorrow with another villain!

Adobe Photoshop CS, about 45 minutes total.

Raphael the Raven is (c) Nintendo, this image is (c) me, Andrew Green.

That was defiantly a memorable boss fight. I'm glad he cooled down in Paper Mario though.

It was so hard to get baby back when you lost him in this fight. But I love Raphael just the same. XD

Yes, I agree. The rotating environment is mostly to blame for that. Between that and Baby Mario's cries...what a headache! ;D

The only things I didn't like about Galaxy:

-No Raphael Raven.
-The game was too easy.

Everything else was gold, in my opinion.

all true. that and the unnecesary slog at the end just to play as weegee. ¬¬

I mean, how hard would it have been to map luigi to player 2? tut-tut

I personally liked the unlockable Luigi (though a 2-player co-op would have been great...and grabbing star bits with the second Wii Remote doesn't count), but it's what you get after you collect all 120 stars with Luigi that's relatively disappointing. Actually, terribly disappointing.

yeah.

I also really hate what they did do with that, I mean that's just a way to annoy people. ¬¬

Well, I remember when I finally found the thing waiting for me after finishing all 120 stars with Luigi and being incredibly disappointed. Online, people were saying "a new galaxy." But all I got was the opening level and a note on the Wii Message Board. Talk about getting ripped off.

Still, the game was incredibly fun. XD

Let me preface by saying that I think Kirby needs a proper revival and something similar to Galaxy would do wonders for everyone's favorite pink puff. I absolutely don't disagree with you on that.

But Galaxy made a great Mario Game, and was a pretty natural progression for the character and his adventures. For years, he's enjoyed successful romps on land, in the sky, and even underwater, but he's hardly ever ventured into space. I think if any character deserved to visit the cosmos, it was Mario. Plus, I always felt that Mario's games feature tighter, more enjoyable platforming that Kirby's titles, though the two experiences are undeniably different.

I do think that Kirby needs a true 3D reinvention, though. I just think it would be best to start off in Dream Land or on Pop Star and visit other places after that formula is proven successful.

Any thoughts? ;D

Oh, so many ;D

Mario galaxy was a fairly good game on it's own. it has loads of memorable, frantic moments and it deserves a place in the top 50 games. BUT. it's lost mucuh of it's mario magic from one thing: It's too epic. Everything, from the story to bowser's new look to the music, has been taken and made to look like it's a thousand times bigger than it is. The lumas help to bring it back down to earth, as it were, but every time I load it up I just think "Bowser's really taken the whole anti-mario thing too far, hasn't he?"

The final boss music doesn't sound like any other bowser music, it sounds more like something from star wars. the opening scene is more like something from independence day. The storyline is like an ancient myth... which doesn't sound bad, but I always liked the games where mario has to save peach because bowser's ruined his picnic, or because otherwise he won't get any "cake".

Bowser's too serious. you have seen the penultimate cutscene, right? the one where bowser's in the star? That's like something from a blockbuster movie, which is nothing like how he's fought in the old games or even in mario sunshine. I guess it's not so bad if you think it takes place in a different universe (as it kind of does), but it's still kind of like how I think a sonic writer would plan out a mario game. and no-one wants mario games to go the way of sonic games.

And the luigi thing is just kind of dumb, I think... ah well.

I think it's a good game, I just don't see how it fits in with the rest of mario. and anyway, now that they've done that, what are they going to do next? How can they get bigger? I hope that they don't try to, to be honest. Any bigger and it would remove the heart of mario in the process.

Any thoughts of your own?

Indeed, it does! The best way to play is on the couch with pizza and orange soda. If that doesn't scream early 90s gaming, I don't know what does. ;D

Oh, and as a quick note, the best game to play while eating said pizza and drinking said orange soda on said couch is Donkey Kong Country: Diddy's Kong Quest. There's something so uniquely "SNES" about that one in particular.

well, i can only emulate it and in all honesty, i like playing DK games but idk, its not one of the games i can play in front of the TV (or my psp) that i can play over and over >_>;

all in all, its almost nonstop when i start playing...but if im in no mood, then bleh.

Surprisingly, no, actually. Pac Man was more my parents' thing, though I loved playing it at the laundry mat we'd go to on a weekly basis. Still, it's pretty addictive if there's nothing else to play, I suppose.

The R4 is a type of cartage u put inside the DS so you can emulate DS games (I.E. Jump Ultimate Stars and etc.)
