Description
Hello there!Villain Month turns 21! I give you the Transylvanians of Rocky Horror Picture Show, a cult-classic musical with B-grade Sci-fi films and rock 'n roll in mind.
Alright, so I was sitting down trying desperately to think of the next villain to draw. I half-sketched a dozen things with much dissatisfaction, but then the idea to illustrate the Transylvanians (from left to right) Riffraff, Frankenfurter, and Magenta. Frankenfurter is on a quest to make a man with blond hair and a tan, good for relieving his "tension," and is throwing a huge bash in his mansion/lab/spaceship for all of his friends to celebrate the completion of his boy-toy, Rocky. Riffraff and Magenta are Frankenfurter's servants (or so it seems). Amidst all of this mess, poor Brad and Janet (not pictured here), a very vanilla, all-American, Christian couple is entangled in this story of sex, lies, intrigue, and meatloaf.
I was going to draw Columbia (those of you who remember anything about the film will remember the yellow sequin top hat and the annoying, high-pitched voice), but she's not really much of a villain and I'm pretty sure she's human, too, whereas these guys are aliens from Transexual, Transylvania. Yeah, no joke.
The film is definitely the "Grindhouse" of musicals. It's a really fun movie with great music if you just check your brain and inhibitions at the door. Many people still get together on weekends to go see it at small art house theaters and take part in a sort of audience participation where many lines are added and substituted by the audience for the sake of a few laughs. Oh, and there's toast, too. ;D
I should add that this movie is pretty special to me. My parents used to perform the show live when I was a kid. My mom almost always played Frankenfurter (yes, she was a woman playing an alien playing a man playing a woman) and my father usually played Brad, if not always. Some kids have memories of their mommies and daddies getting home from work and talking about the big promotion. I have memories of my dad cracking his rib while doing a crazy split in women's lingerie. Yeah...and you wonder why I'm messed up. ;D
This image isn't entirely accurate and I didn't have a reference for the actors, so take it for what it is. I hope you guys like it! Let me know what you think.
Adobe Photoshop CS, about an hour and a half total.
PS: If anyone thinks I should slap the good ol' Mature Content filter on this one since it is a bit crude, please let me know and I will. Until then, I don't think it's that offensive.
The Transylvanians are (c) Paramount Pictures (I think, correct me if I'm wrong please), and this image is (c) me, Andrew T. Green. Don't steal, because stealing is icky and will make you icky if you do it. That's what Jesus told me.

"Don't just dream it....be it."
One of the best cult-classic movies of all time. A job well done, man.

Frankenfurter FTW!
My friend was obsessed with this film in high school, all day long she would say things like "It was a mercy killing" and bust a time warp move.

You know, I'm pretty sure I knew how to do the Time Warp at a very young age but have since forgotten exactly how to do it. But I think this is it:
Take a step to the left, then jump to the right, put your hands on your hips, bring your knees in tight, but it's the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane, let's do the Time Warp again. ;D
And yes, Frankenfurter FTW indeed.

I think it's "Just a jump to your left, then a step to the right" But it's been a while since I've seen it, I could be wrong.

This is my favorite villain pic so far. It really looks all put together and that musical is hysterical
I LOVE the shading.

Thank you so much! Hysterical is a great way to describe that film. ;D

I've heard of this show, but I actually know nothing about it other than it's name. Seeing this, I almost wish I had seen it, haha.
I really like the rough-style brush you used on this for the tones and shading. (I don't know what you'd call it--marker? Crayon?) It adds some nice variance and interest to your otherwise smooth and clean-cut style.

I think it's closer to a pastel, actually. I made the brush myself. If enough people are interested, I'll try and throw together a tutorial on how to make it.
I'm glad you like the piece! You should see the film - it's really fun and ridiculous.

Pastel! That's it.
That would be very cool. I haven't done digital art (outside of a class I took last semester) in so long, mostly due to inadequate resources, but I really can't wait to get back into it again when I have the chance. It would be nice to play with something new.
Come to think of it, I never actually learned to make brushes.

Oh, making brushes is easy and fun! I can personally spend hours just trying to come up with ways to replicate traditional means and even make some funky new stuff. I really do need to make that tutorial when I have the time, I know it would help some people.

Hehe the description is pretty hilarious.
Riffraff is deffo my favorite of the three in this picture, but Frankenfurter's face is quite well done.

It's really hard not to make the description hilarious in the case of Rocky Horror. It's such a ridiculous film. ;D
Glad you like the image! Frankenfurter's face is probably my favorite part of the piece, actually.

Coincidence! -- I'm going to see a live performance of Rocky Horror on the 30th of this month! I wasn't around during this movie's "time" so I never got to partake in any of the fun performances I've heard so much about, so I'm pretty excited for it.
Anyway, useless rambling aside, as usual I love the way you've interpreted the characters into your own unique style, but I especially love the colouring of this one. It's really textured, like chalk almost -- I really like it. Great job!

Rocky Horror is a lot of fun, and you're sure to enjoy it! The music is really good, too.
Glad you like it! I made the chalk/pastel-like brush myself, and I'm thinking I should make a small tutorial on how to make it so other people can use it.

Great work. I like the texture and style a lot. Tim Curry is awesome.. Although I've never seen this movie all the way through, just parts here and there on VH1.
Have you seen 'Legend'? He plays the dark prince in that one (satan? his son? I still can't tell). A teensy suggestion. Itty-bitty.

Thank you!
Tim Curry is awesome, and I'd consider this one of his best roles. It's been a long time since I've sat through Legend, but it's such a beautiful film. I believe Curry's character was simply named "Dark," correct? It's hard to remember.

IMDB has his character named "The Lord of Darkness." We were close! But man, those horns...

DrewGreen In reply to diogenes [2008-10-22 06:14:57 +0000 UTC]
Oh wait, I think that's right. I think the fans refer to him as "Darkness." And yeah, I can't imagine running around wearing those crazy horns for so many hours a day. That must have been a complete nightmare!

Rocky Horror!
Perfect for the villains month and the season! One of my things that I really want to do is go see it in person. I hear all the stories and I want to view it for myself.

Oh, it's a riot with audience participation. Though sometimes, the audience screams so loud you can't really hear the movie or tell what they're saying, which kind of sucks.
Glad you like the piece! I thought it was appropriate for the season, too.

I would do Darth Maul, but I can only take so much Star Wars, and Vader is so iconic it'd be stupid to leave him in the dust.

I've never seen it or looked into this production much (lame, I know), but this drawing really reminds me of how cool and unique your style really is. I love the little background story of this piece and, man, what a colorful childhood you must've had. Boring lawyer parents for the looose.
