Description
Coffs Coast - Mid North Coast - NSW, Australia. If you are following my work on dA you've probably seen my latest journal entry about my mac issue with my latest images.
I have taken a few new snaps and processed them on my mac to get your feedback. Basically I'm concerned with saturation, contrast and sharpness of my recent images. I'd really appreciate some honest feedback, cheers!

The whites are a little bright on this and the next two images, but other than that the colors look good and sharpness is there as well.

I love the water, but in almost all your images, the rocks look somehow overdone. Too dark, too much contrast regardless if I look at the image in Safari or Chrome. I use a 17" Windows laptop.

Do my images look fine on your monitor? If not, then it is maybe my monitor that is not properly calibrated.

Rock also tend to look overly done when doing long exposures like this. There is just so much detail in them especially when you have milky water like this to contrast against. Great image by the way. What was the exposure length on this?
P.S. Sorry to jump into this convo.

Wasn't exactly a long exposure.

well not exactly a long exposure but i'm guessing you stopped down and stacked some filters possibly?

Love the shot, excellent pattern repetition between clouds and waves.
Looks pretty good processing wise over here. Maybe a little too contrasty for truth but certainly not overdone. Colours and saturation about right.

I'm glad to hear that from you mate, I've been doing my head in with this shit lately. I think I'm getting back into my usual patterns

Technical problems are a complete arse Drew but surmountable and not worth getting down about...You have got the kit and the talent and the motivation for photography.
Some of your "mistakes" recently have looked somehow HDR-like are you using any software like that or blending software or anything other than LR/CS or midtone contrast boosts?
π: 0 β©: 1
DrewHopper In reply to JakeSpain [2011-05-11 02:31:20 +0000 UTC]
Basically adding more 'fill light' to my images in LR which might be the cause.. I will try fix this over the next couple of shoots. Keep informing as I progress mate, I appreciate your honesty!

Fill light is brilliant in tiny amounts but yes that would explain some of the problem.

The sky was toned down for the mood in this one, reduced the opacity of colour in monochrome to add impact. Cheers!

This looks fine Drew, very natural and sharp! I didn't seem to have any problems on the crossover to using my mac, not sure why your last few images have been so saturated, looks like you've got the hang of it now tho

The water compliments the cloud formations very nicely. Was that something you were looking for? How many shots did you rattle off before you had one you liked? Great job Drew!

absolutely beautiful! you did an amazing job on this one...
sorry about all the frustrations you're going through with your new
computer... a few years ago i had a monitor that was really dark for some reason
and i didn't realize how much it was affected all my artwork and photos
until i saw my stuff on another monitor and i was soo shocked and upset! yikes!
but believe me, your amazing photos still look amazing, just a tiny bit off of your
usual brilliance, but everyone knows it's a technical glitch that you're workin' on...
and you're getting back to spot on perfection... this photo's perfect!!!

I think it looks great! Especially the movement of the waves. The sharpness of the rock is perfect. I don't think the picture looks washed out or anything; I don't think you have anything to worry about!

I think it looks great - the processing looks like what I'm used to seeing from you However, I don't think this is the best picture to judge, as the main thing that has bothered me in your recent photos is the saturation, and this scene isn't as vibrant as the other you have posted. Contrast looks much better than in the other photos though!
