Description Some sketches I did today to prove to myself that I haven't lost all my drawing abilities whatsoever. I'm going to be doing a ton of these studies to start preparing myself for animating faces in 3D. I wanted to exaggerate them, and expand my drawing style.

References used were photos from Mark Simon's book, "Facial Expressions: A Visual Reference for Artists."

Models used were Mark Simon, Lou Difazio, and Marty Sherman.

The guy in the bottom left looks sorta like Jerry Seinfeld. Like he's going Helloooooo Newman.

Haha, after I drew it I actually thought it reminded me of a caricature of Seinfeld I saw before.

Same here, man. I've been thinking about those art classes a lot recently. You should come by the CCHS art show on the 20th. I'll be there, and I think Ginene's supposed to be going too. Katie always goes every year, so it'll be a little reunion thing.

And we both know Ms. D misses you more than anyone else.

She didn't. Not since I was there in Nov doing my documentary on Mr. Ehrmann...

Come to think of it, there weren't many art students there either...

...dun dun dun.

A documentary on Mr. Ehrmann? Like a wildlife documentary? That sounds rather exciting n.n I'd do one on that guy I always assumed was gay but apparently was married to Miss Mereny (if i spelled it right). I coulda sworn he had a different name. But yea...the dude with the bear that cares and somebunny loves you. I heard if you put the rabbit on your desk, he'd hug you.

I think Miss D has been draining the art student't there's life forces...every 4 years she needs to feed. It seems a final showdown for the fate of art students everywhere will conspire sunday!

Mr. Cordner = Bear that Cares, Somebunny Loves You, let's trace our feet and play with crayons and construction paper because I don't actually know how to teach anyone about the first grade

Mr. Ehrmann = friggin' BAMF, Who's Your Daddy, What's the most important date in the history of ancient Israel, etc

Mr. Ehrmann FTW.

But, yeah, it was a really fun project and he was so photogenic so it helped.

Haha, I forgot about that desk. I loved that thing. I don't remember seeing it last time I went in to visit, but that was like a year ago and my memory sucks.

Very good. Are you very experienced with 2d animation?

Define "very." I took some beginner 2D animation classes for a couple years, back when I was around 13-15. More recently, I took one classical animation class a year ago at Rutgers.

Your gallery is excellent, by the way. Very impressive stuff.

The reason I ask is that I was told that one must be skilled in 2d animation before they move on to 3d. I took 2 years of it in high school and did not like it too much. Just wondering if the process is any different for 3d. Thanks.

That's definitely true, in my opinion. And though I don't have an extended background in 2D, I'm fairly good and I've got a completely solid understanding of all the principles of animation, squash and stretch, anticipation, wave, etc.

But you're right, and a big problem I'm seeing right now is that he majority of my fellow students completely blow off the classical side, and their work definitely suffers from it.

There's actually a school here with a fairly large 2 year 3D animation program... and can you believe they don't even TALK about the animation principles, much less teach them!? And this is on the college level, not just a beginner thing. Two of my friends transferred to my school and they'd never heard of squash and stretch before. I was absolutely horrified.
