Personality: Rook is a friendly and flirtatious man with a great adoration for women from all walks of life. He has a talent for being the optimist among a sea of doubters and always has some advice to lend should he be asked for it. His amiable nature and quick wit is what gets him him scores of contacts and friends in places both high and low. Steadfast and dependable, he can be a bit stubborn at times but usually caves to others wishes if they've got good reason for it. “To each his own.” Everyone has their own reasons for doing what they do, and Rook knows this. Sometimes his emotions and strong passion dictate his actions, which isn't necessarily good considering his line of work. When he isn't required to be rough or stern, Rook gives in to his more compassionate side. On the other hand, though he is slow to provoke, he's just as hard to calm when enraged. While he is friendly, he tends to hold grudges, and vehemently keeps people at an arms length in terms of trust despite his amiable nature. He also tends to be "Morally Grey" at times, concerning his belief that everyone has their own reasons for doing things and the sheer quantity of his questionable occupations- and so he might callously stand by while a man is beaten to near death for saying the wrong thing, or defend a thief or a murderer depending on the circumstances.
History:
Living on the southern coast of Cantor, Jole was hardly six years old when his mother abandoned him and his siblings to be taken care of by their father and grandmother. They lived on a small and lively farm overlooking the ocean- on a clear day they might even see the coastline of Nisalvini. Between the four of the kids, and sometimes the aid of their father, the Cohen’s kept their farm running. However, their father had a drinking problem- and soon, a gambling problem. The lost almost everything, including the boy's sisters when some men insisted that they'd be able to help with the debt. Thankfully the mayor stepped in, but not before Jole and Sam had done significant damage to the other party. It was for that same reason that the men returned a few night later, when the Cohen's had resolved to leave town. Meaning only to scare the family, it was not their intention to set the house afire late that night, burning Jole severely as he fought to save his sisters, and killing his grandmother, who died from smoke inhalation.
Thinking they wouldn't be caught in the chaos, one man tried to return to grab one of Rook's sisters, but was sorely disappointed.
Jole was fourteen when he sustained burns on countless parts of his body, predominantly on his arms and face, and fell from the cliff side in a struggle with one of the men who had set the fire in the first place.
When he awoke, Jole had no memory of what had happened, not even his own name, having been taken in by a merchant ship captain by the name of Emil Bonaventura. They were on their way back to Amedra from Nisalvini when they found the boy half dead and drifting in the water. It was a miracle in itself that he was somehow still alive with all his burns, even after having his lungs pumped free of water. He thought to send the boy out on his own, while his wife, Isabella Bonaventura, demanded that she raise the injured and partially blinded boy herself, along with her five other children. It took years for Rook to become accustom to his new life in Amedra, unused to the customs and people. As his wounds healed, his memories came back slowly but surely- however when he went back to find his real family, there was no trace of them.
Having formed a strong bond with his adoptive family, Rook still felt the urge to look for his real relatives, taking a job Emil got him to cross to Koben when he was twenty five. The parting was bittersweet, but the morals and Charisma instilled in him by his adoptive family are a large part of who he is today.
Rook now works where he is needed in Linhythe, whether it be an odd delivery job, looking for someone, or working on a merchant and pirate ships alike.

-Because of his miraculous survival, many of their acquaintances refer to Rook as "The boy promised to the sea"
-Rook has a fondness for birds, most likely stemming from the memories of the friendly chickens he use to take care of when he was little
-He is a certified battle budgie trainer; small birds trained for defense and delivering messages across Amedra- the first to master the art since his adoptive grandmother

- From the age of sixteen onwards, Rook spent the majority of his time on ships, learning from his father and brothers what it took to really be a sailor
