Richard is an easygoing young man who tries his best to be enthusiastic and friendly to ensure everyone around him is having fun and enjoying themselves. He takes much joy in the happiness of others and wishes for a positive atmosphere wherever he goes. Because of this, Richard can seem a bit childish and immature around others. Despite his military pedigree, Richard dislikes conflict and would rather negotiate instead of physically hurting anyone. He is idealistic but sensible. Richard may be playful and cheery, but he's not one to naively overlook the big picture and takes time to put things into perspective. An intellect at heart, Richard is eloquent and tactful with his words and can be quite the smooth talker if needed be. Richard is a team player but he can also be rather competitive when a challenge is proposed to him. His competitive nature and inner necessity to prove his worth makes him very diligent when tasks are asked of him. He might carry himself humbly around others, but Richard does hold onto a sense of pride and a belief that he's smarter than the average person, his ego and pride often showing its true colors whenever he's challenged. Although his heart might seem soft, he has a sharp tongue when crossed.

He's chivalrous, compassionate, and puts other's needs before his own. But his diligence and willingness to serve others is often a grave source of stress for him when expectations continue to pile up. Richard is very self-critical and sensitive to criticism, often times falling into depression if his work ever falls short or if someone else points out his mistakes. He isn't a perfectionist, but Richard always strives to better himself.

History:
Hailing from a long line of fighters and knights whom served the Imperial Guard and Empire for generations, without a doubt it was only natural for Richard to follow in the footsteps of his father and those before him. Richard grew up as an only child under the care of his family's servants due to his mother passing away during childbirth. Richard's father never remarried and due to his wife's passing, his father was especially hard on him while growing up. His father's expectations were always high and his hand was stern when it came to discipline. But since the very beginning, Richard didn't have much interest in fighting. In fact, he opposed it. During training whenever he'd get hurt, the idea of inflicting the same pain onto others never sat well with him. Even if a knight's job is to serve and protect, from a young age Richard didn't like the idea of swinging a sword to 'protect' others.

Although Richard wasn't the most gifted fighter, the boy definitely excelled when it came to academic studies. Even though he was young, he kept himself well versed and well read, causing him to be a bit of a troublesome smart aleck as a boy. While he didn't take much interest in the battlefield, Richard felt immersed in the vast knowledge books had to offer. He became even more interested in reading books on magic after discovering his innate ability to tap into magic. As time went on and he gradually gained the skill to have some slight control over his ability, he soon discovered his skills weren't aligned to any healing properties, thus shutting down the possibility of being a well rounded healing paladin like his father.

Richard wasn't too upset over this discovery, instead he took it upon himself to look more into the different disciplines and forms the world of magic had to offer. Of course, this didn't sit too well with his father. Although the boy shaped up to be a well educated gentleman, Richard was supposed to be a figher and a knight above all else. Richard and his father never quite saw eye to eye when it came to what true strength was about and once Richard was of age, he was to enroll into the military academy. But even with the threat of war creeping up dawnbreak, the military was one of the last places Richard wanted to end up in as he didn't want to add to more senseless fighting. Once Richard finally spoke his mind, his father proposed that if Richard could defeat him in a duel, he will allow him to pursue whatever path he wants in life. But Richard wasn't a fool and knew full well he was way too inexperienced to contend against his father in a fight.

Despite being uneased with the path he had to follow, he didn't take it as a complete loss as he can still learn and improve his magical abilities while at the academy. During his years at the academy Richard worked hard to sharpen his skills in order to join the Imperial Guard in the future, both as a promise to his childhood friends and to respect his family lineage. But instead of serving as a knight, Richard planned to protect his comrades and his country as a hopeful tactical adviser.

- He can summon three different shadow animals. A bear for heavy hitting, a vulture for elemental attacks, and a wolf for fast striking. He can only summon one at a time and they emerge from his own shadow, thinly linked to each other thus limiting him to be a mid-range fighter. If they stray too far from one another, it causes both heavy physical and mental strain.
