Description Another face study. No, it's not boring quite yet This one is a significant improvement over yesterdays. The shading is alot less streaky and the hair is alot better. I'm not really concentrating on hair at this point, still trying to get the faces right. I think I'll try a man face next, although that's alot harder for me because I can't just look in the mirror to get a shadow reference.

We never start with the easy stuff what's wrong with us!

Oh right, nothing, we're just into challenges

You have a ton of potential I can see it already, I leave the technical stuff to my best friend over there and I'll just tell you that I can see improvement from the first one The shadowing is so much better in this one, even and consistent

You rule!

Haha, I have to admit the challenge of a face is much more interesting than any of the still life stuff I tried to do first. Only so many vases and coffee cups you can look at before it makes you crazy! I worked on still life for about three days, then roses for another two and then I just started working on faces as a distraction from the other stuff I think.

At least this way if I get faces down then everything else will be really easy, right?

Sure you can (use a mirror for light reference in anything)... use it as a general idea as opposed to exact. Also if you treat every piece of the face as a shape and imagine how the light would fall upon it (down to spheres / cones / cubes) then that can make it easier as well. Or just sit in front of a mirror and do like 15 self portraits and render them with different light sources - eventually you'll just naturally know where it all goes. Touch your face a lot and really feel where everything is ...

Am I crazy yet? ; )

People are horribly organic and one of the hardest things in the world... I would say start simpler but you've really got a grasp on this so I say keep going with it. : )

Well I started with flowers but I got bored kind of quick. I'll upload one of those so you can see it.

I knew people were going to be hard and I'm not sure why I decided to jump right into that. I got a book about shading and blending because I knew that's where I was weakest and it had some really great pictures of eyes in there so I started doodling them.
