A bead sprite of Talim from Soul Calibur 2. This was made from a custom sprite made by me, based on official artwork for the game.Related content

No, I use Photoshop for the sprites these are based on, but they are all drawn by hand, pixel by pixel. I don't use lines, fills, patterns, filters, overlays or anything like that. They take about an hour each. Here's the process:
I outline the basic shapes of key parts in black, then once I decide that looks nice, I start coloring. Referencing the colors in the original, I start with lighter shades and work towards darker (or vice-versa). I have a file that's just a palette based on all the colors of beads I have, so I have that open and visible on the desktop so along the way I can pick those colors to use them. That way, when I bead, I kno exactly which colors to use, and I can select them all at once with the Magic Wand so I can clearly see where I am laying that color of bead. After I finish coloring in all areas, I re-trace the black outlines with colors more similar to the colors that fill in the shape, only a few shades darker. Sometimes this means leaving the original black, if the adjacent pixels are already the darkest shade of tha color. Anyways, it takes awhile and I end up zooming out and back in a lot just to make sure it looks right - sometimes I'll even change one pixel, zoom out to 100 percent and undo/redo that one pixel over and over until I decide which I like better. Yeah, kinda tedious, but I'd say its worth it.

Thank you, my friend. I got tired of copying sprites that others drew (although classic sprites do kick the most ass of all) so I made some of my own. But seeing as I'm trying to sell most of these, I had to do something someone else could appreciate. I figured the girls from Soul Calibur 2 were a good start.
Next up, Tekken 5 and 6!

I started bead sprites after my bro got me a Mega Man X that 8 Bit Painter/Artist made. Since then I've done a lot of bead sprites...a lot - I simply ran out of ideas, and I've experimented with custom stuff in the past and wanted to try more. SC2 is by far my favorite fighting game, so there you have it. And Talim is my girl, too!
