Description
In the most unexpected placesYears ago Oliver Queen better known as the Green Arrow died, but he died a hero saving countless lives. Sadly his death left a trail of damaged hearts, but probably no one was hurt as much as Dinah Lance, known as the Black Canary. For a time she just barely drifted in life. She just lived a normal life no longer patrolling the streets as Black Canary. That is until Barbara Gordon a fellow former super heroine gave the woman a new direction for her life. Together they helped form the Birds of Prey.(Not counting the earlier attempt with Power girl)
Years later Dinah has regained her canary cry that was lost years early, and the Birds of Prey becomes a respectable team with a rotating roster but usually headed by Black Canary and Huntress with Oracle’s guidance. Little would they know the very foundation of the team would soon be struck maybe never able to recover.
Dinah was returning to the clocktower after a difficult mission in Bludhaven. She had got a little banged up but in the end the perp had been caught and all was right with the world. She had taken a second to look up at the tower to give Oracle a full report and then going home to sleep in her own bed!
Right before she looked back down on the road the top of the tower had exploded in a giant fireball. “Barbara!” was all she could yell. She had to get up there. She had to have survived, somehow, someway. Dinah didn’t know what she would do if Babs had died. Without thought of the consequences she speed up not slowing down in the parking garage. Riding until she was near the stairs only to jump off at the last second to run up the stairs. It was a lot of floors but she had to get up there. Barbara just had to be okay, she just had to be!
She had finally made it, after all those floors her legs felt like they were on fire. She was absolutely exhausted. What little energy she did have left completely left her body when she saw the damage and destruction. It was all trashed. She felt she was on some alien planet with how little she recognized things. She just fell to her knees in shock, everything hitting her at once. Oracle was dead and there was absolutely nothing she could do about it. With the brains behind the team gone the Birds of Prey were dead. It was all over and she could do was stay on the ground and cry.
There was some kind of noise in the background and even more surprising there was a hand in on her shoulder. Dinah wiped a gloved hand against her eyes to brush away the tears. She looked to her side seeing Huntress standing there a pain on her face.
“Dinah we have to go. The police are coming and we can’t be caught here. They are coming up the steps and they’ll be here any time.”
Dinah pushed Helena’s hand away, “Go then. It doesn’t matter anymore, the Bird of Prey are over.”
Helena frowned as she bent down to pick her teammate back up. “Sorry Dinah I can’t let you do that. We’re going.” Dinah wanted to fight her off, wanted to tell her to screw herself but she just couldn’t. With a bit of a struggle Huntress was able to get Black Canary over her shoulder and made a break for the window. Once at the edge she pulled out her crossbow with a grapple line and shot it out swinging to the roof of a nearby building.
With the landing a bit hard thanks to the dead weight of her ally Helena reached out to check on Dinah again. “Dinah are you okay?”
Finding a new anger rise Dinah knocked Helena’s hand aside “I’d be just fine if you would leave me alone! Who are you to make choices for me?!”
Helena wanted to say something, anything, but the pain on Dinah’s face just stabbed her through the heart. She would do anything to take that pain away. While the fellow birds and most the super hero community in general would feel the loss, few would feel it as much as Dinah did. This moment made it so obvious. That realization kept her from doing anything when Dinah left, going toward her apartment/Flower shop.
At Dinah’s apartment above her flower shop Dinah just sat on her bed weeping. She had taken her costume that Oracle had provided her off. Wearing it just made every memory worse. Now she found herself in a big T-shirt as she didn’t feel like wearing anything else since she was about to cry herself to sleep. All of a sudden she heard a knocking at the door. She didn’t get up. If she didn’t answer it they’d eventually just go away. Yet they wouldn’t stop knocking. What moron wouldn’t just leave her alone? He sorrow was starting to turn to anger. “Go away!” She yelled.
About a minutes later the knob turned. Dinah moved toward the door and set herself ready to pounce the person breaking and entering. Now was about the dumbest time some jackass could have tried to pull something. The door swung open revealing Helena out of costume wearing a denim jacket over a tight black T-shirt, with some tight jeans, and some heeled boots.
“I thought I told you to leave me along! Don’t you get it? The Birds are over, and I never want to see you again!”
Helena moved forward half a step looking incredibly hurt. “No, you don’t mean that. Even without her, we can still be a team. We can continue on”
“Shut up!”
“We can still work together; we can still be a force for good.”
Even just wearing a big t-shirt with tears running down her eyes Dinah still looked like a force to be reckoned with. “I said shut up, and leave me the fuck alone!”
Helena reached out placing her hand on the top of the shorter woman’s shoulder. “Dinah, I can’t leave you like this. You need a friend right now. No matter what you say I won’t leave.” Tears started running down Helena’s face.
Without warning Dinah’s fist balled up and rose up, slamming into Helena’s jaw knocking the unexpecting heroine to the ground. The sudden realization of what she had done made her mouth drop wide open. “Oh my God, Helena! I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean it. Here let me help you up.”
Dinah helped Helena over to a chair. Dinah started examining the blow she landed on her teammate and friend. She started rubbing her fingers over the spot her hand had hit. It looked pretty bad. “I think there is a little swelling. Do you want me to get you some ice?”
Helena looked at Dinah’s hand soon reaching up with her own before looking Dinah in the eyes. Gosh even through the hell she had gone through Dinah looked absolutely beautiful. She had always thought that her friend was pretty. She had the most beautiful eyes. Not only that but she had breast and curves Helena would have killed for.
Helena had just taken Dinah’s hand. Her hand seemed oddly comforting to her while she was in so much emotional pain. She looked at Helena’s perfect raven colored locks, and then to her deep blue eyes. They seemed almost a mirror of Dinah’s own. What was all this? What was this strange feeling she was having? It was almost, almost like the time she used to spend with Ollie after a tough night of crime fighting.
With seemingly no warning the two women’s faces locked together at the lips. Dinah helped Helena off the chair as the jacket was shrugged off. Still a moment of doubt rose and Dinah pulled away. “What was that? I have no clue what I’m doing!”
Helena took Dinah’s trembling hands in her own. “I know. I’ve liked you for a long time now. I just never stood a chance because you were holding onto your memory of Ollie.” She let go of Dinah’s hand and started turning to her jacket. “But I never should have told you like this. I just took advantage of your emotions, I’ll go now.”
Dinah looked down at the floor for a bit but just a second she reached out to Helena’s arm. “No, don’t go. I, I need you.” She pulled a surprised Helena to her for a tight hug. “Don’t leave me. Stay here, please.” Helena wrapped her arms around her friend and crush.
It had been several minutes they had just stood there. Suddenly Dinah pressed her lips to Helena’s neck. With a little more prompting the two started to kiss again. With a little work Dinah started to work on Helena’s pants. A bit surprised at Dinah’s movements and a dream come true at such a time. She forced herself to pull away, “What are you doing Dinah?”
Dinah had a look like a kid who was caught with their hand in the cookie jar. “Well I figured you caught me without my pants, it was only fair.”
Helena smiled, even with what had happened there was still good to look forward to. “Alright, that’s fair.” Helena let Dinah help her out with her boots and then her jeans. With the skin tight garment off Dinah could see lacey white panties.
“Wow it’s pretty strange to see you wearing white like that.” Though Dinah did think it also was very sexy.
Helena just crossed her arms and said, “So what do you have under that impenetrable man made cotton armor?”
Dinah walked toward her bed room. “What about I show you in here?” Dinah said starting to pull her shirt up before disappearing from view with just a small flash of a black thong.
“Oh yeah I’m going to find out.”
Waking up the next morning both girls mostly naked under the covers, they just stared at each other for a second.
“Do you want to look for the bomber today?” Helena asked.
“As long as we do it together.” Dinah said smiling to Helena caressing her cheek a bit.
"I wouldn’t have it any other way Dinah.” Helena leaned in and they had a brief kiss before getting out of bed reaching for their clothes. It was the start of a new era, that was for sure. It seemed comfort and love came in the most unexpected places.
