Description
Illustrated by the talented Sheather888.A Lambeosaurine Hadrosaur known only from a partial lower jaw, a fragmentary head crest, cervical vertebrae and a fragment of the ischium. The remains of Phosphatodon daouiensis were recovered from the Ouled Abdoun Basin, Morocco and have been dated to the Middle Paleocene (c.61-58). From the little that is known of this animal, it appears to be a close relative of the Cretaceous Spanish Hadrosaur Pararhabdodon and a member of the Tsintaosaurini. The appearance of Phosphatodon in North Africa signals the beginning of a significant radiation of Lambeosaurine Hadrosaurs on the African continent, one that would dominate mid-sized herbivore niches there until the Middle Miocene.

I love how you predicted the discovery of african hadrosaurs, only that they were Cretaceous instead of Paleocene.

Thanks! You could say that, through a chance crossing from Europe, Tsintaosaurus and its relatives would do more than simply live. In fact, this originally small family would dominate many herbivore niches in Africa well into the Neogene.
