LOL COVENANT
I'm reading the series right now and oh my god, Covenant is so screwed up when he leaves the Land back to his own world! Ahhaha. The author of the books, though, is an amazing person in himself. Keeping up flowing languagem constantly.
Me and my dad LOVE talking about Covenant and how hes such a shunning, serious leper who has everyone making up excuses for him everywhere he goes. Its like he does NOTHING. Hes just STANDING there, watching everyone else having all the responsibility and only leaping in to change the world in the last moments. LOL! Nice work, by the way! He looks so mean >.<

Thanks, he is quite a different anti-hero. It's been years since I first read the series. Maybe it's time to reread it!

It just might BE the time to re-read it! Its a really insightful series.

Half-way through Lord Foul's Bane (my dad pulled them out from nowhere a few days ago), so far it's not *amazing* stuff (apparently the other books are far superior, according to my dad, anyway).

As far as I've read so far, your picture fits him pretty well (however I'll admit I picture him being a lot uglier).

I don't do art, so I don't have any artistic criticism, other than I like.

Thanks. Yeah, I did this one before I was too far into the book and would have changed him a lot if I had done it after finishing the book. Esp. the uglier part.

love it! but i always think of him with his beard ^^

Yeah, I drew this after reading only a few chapters and even though it doesn't capture the true message or nature of the book (adding the beard would probably help) I still liked it enough to show it. Maybe when I reread the book, I'll redraw ol' Tommy boy again.

Sorry for faving without comment...

Thomas Covenant fanart is almost nonexistant on Deviantart.

No problem, Thanks for the fav again, and I think we need more Thomas Covenant art. Maybe if they do a movie some day. After the LOTR success, I half expected TC to make at least a Sci-FI channel production. A full scale major picture would be even better, but who knows when that could happen.

Great image. I love the Thomas Covenant books, and there needs to be more fanart from them.

By the way, your description of the series is hilarious! and so true...

I'm sure they'll get lots of fanart when they do a movie of it! lol

Nice one, although I always imagine him with a beard on him... the one he kept as to prove the Land's unreality. And his features a little warmer still... but still, this is a good depiction of him

brilliant picture, not quite how i see him in the books but its still great and the series is amazing, just reading the first book of the last cronicles of thomas coventant unbeliver

I agree. This was drawn as I started to read the series, thinking that like E.R. Burroughs characters who got carted off to Venus or Mars or Pellucidar, that the hero would evolve into a warrior. What happened to him of course was much more interesting than that.

Have you read the second series? I haven't yet but plan to soon.

i have read all three triogys (well all of the first cronicles and the second cronicles and as much of the final cronicles that has been realesed) and they are all excellent, the second cronicles are quite different from the first in the plot but is excelent. Read them read them now

Yeah... I have to agree, awesome ink job. Very well drawn, and a great concept. That being said I suppose that's the danger of drawing such fan art and the like. Even if matches your vision of the character/s involved, it's going to fall short in someone's eyes. And I don't really think that's too important, but it does open a lot of doors for negative comments that a lot of artists could live without.

I was thinking the look on this fellow's face, I think of him more as Lord Foul perhaps, even though he is missing the fingers, if on the wrong hand or not I don't remember. I haven't read but the first book and a half of the first series, but from my reading I always picture a fellow with a "hopeless despair" about him, kind of thin and reedy, instead of the muscular fellow you've got him as... he's definately got a sour look on him, and I love the expression... but to me it speaks more of the evil sort of guy who looks down upon and loathes everyone he meets. Just my observations really... it is a great picture, and I wish I could do something of the sort...

(okay, if I had your years of practice I could... but I'd rather write. *lol*)

Yeah, as I remember it I drew this before I was halfway into the book, and I had as yet no clear concept of where it was going. I pictured him turning out like Conan the Conqueror, instead of the reluctant anti-hero he actually was.

Great great picture, I love it... One question, wasn't it the Last two fingers on his hand missing? Oh well, nit pick lol. I love the technique, great ink.

You're probably right. I did the picture just after starting the book and in retrospect I didn't research the details but you'd think that was one I would pay attention to. I'm going to pick up the book again and reread it. Maybe I'll redo some artwork as well. lol

Nice!!! I LOVE the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, as in re-read several times (in fact, I'm about due)... the first installment of the Last Chronicles that came out last year was great, but man, waiting three years between books is hell on the imagination

So anyway, your depiction here captures the essential black vs. white, anti-hero nature of everyone's favorite half-handed, reluctant leper Great ink work, great expression

I'reread LOR recently and Lord of Light by Zelazsny, and was thinking of rereading HP but maybe I'll go back and revisit Tom again. How many Covenant books are there anyway? I've read 6 of them.

Donaldson just released the first of a final trilogy, "The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" around this time last year. I read it in like three days. Here's a link, it's called "The Runes of the Earth":

Beware of spoilers in the reviews. All I can say is, more greatness, and MAN it's going to be a long two years before the next one comes out!

Thanks.
