Description Old contest prize for =DanSyron Hope you like it~

Well, since the prize was for the number contest back in uhm... March... I wanted to make up for it and try out something new, like... more perspective practice

Redrew the sketch three times, didn't give the puddle so much attention, same with the grass and sand.
My main focus was perspective and shading Syron xD...
And since he's symmetrical (mostly), I didn't want to swap everything horizontical :'D... It looked weird anyways

Listened to very unfitting music while making it :'D

Art (c) *Drytil
Syron (c) =DanSyron

This is a really amazing piece of art here! I totally dig the coloring and the perspective and Sy's reflection in the water and his expression too! Totally amazing work here!

I'd thought that it was Silver at first because of the glove, until I'd saw the faint reflection and read about his Ref Sheet.
Darn it, he'd already critiqued most of the stuff that I had wanted to critique on. Oh well, at least there are a few places that he'd missed.

The first thing that I would have to mention would be the 'missing' shadow on the puddle (I'd spent my childhood staring into puddles in hopes of entering another dimension XD). If the light source is at the top of this picture, then we should be able to see the bottom of this puddle and a darker reflection of Syron on the surface for the puddle.

Plus, the sand looks as if it belongs to the beach, not inland. You could give it a darker tone and add a couple of specks of stone-grey pebbles partially revealed by the soil to give it the water-washed effect, especially after a rain. (Coincidentally, its raining here right now. Good opportunities always knock on my doorstep. )

Ah thank chu for the critique :'D

Yea, I kinda just wanted to have it done when I was finished with the shading on Syron xD Lost interest in the surrounding and that's why it doesn't look as much 'realistic' as it should c:

Yea, it kinda turned out as a beach, which was kinda intented to, just not as much worked on detail by detail as for Syron x'D

Yes <333 It's lovely to look down at puddles :'D I always gets fascinated by the water and all the reflection <3

You're welcome.

Oh well, he could be in another one of his dream (which could explain why he has that expression in the reflection of the puddle ).

I'd thought that beaches don't have those sorts of grass, especially when they've grown into clumps like the ones in your piece above. My bad.

Yeah, I agree with ya. ^^ Simply by creating ripples on the surface, I get to see images created by the shine of my torchlight. (Is this why you're so good at drawing water surfaces and oceans without having a line to be seen among the waves? ;D)

Some beaches can have grass xD Just not that much that I just made, but still, I'm quite used to having grass at a beach <3

(Good question.... I have no idea how I manage to to the water surface :'D I just improvise a lot <3 )

Axe-Cell In reply to Drytil [2011-11-04 11:58:06 +0000 UTC]

I've only seen the usual sea shells and pebbles at the beach. Haha, I had been wondering if the beaches in your area have grass growing very close to the shoreline, and you'd just answered my question.

( ..... Well that was awkward, because I'd thought that you were actually already good at drawing water surfaces. )

Drytil In reply to Axe-Cell [2011-11-04 14:03:04 +0000 UTC]

Yah it's quite usual to find grass quite close to the shoreline :'D It kinda depends on the enviroment though xD

(Well, I do have done some practice with it xD I got some scrapped stuff in the scarps for example <3)

Out of all the perspectives you could have chosen, this is probably one of the most difficult scenarios to execute. A first-person reflection into water below is incredibly hard and I've actually considered trying this exact instance on many occasions and weener'd out because of the difficulty. That being said, you executed incredibly well. All this for guessing a number correctly? Da hell, woman . It looks great, the reflections match up nicely with the First-person pieces such as Sy's hand and foot. You even did the grass reflections in some spots (such as the upper left, or at least from what I see). It looks wonderful!

As a bit of a constructive criticism (since you did want one as denoted by the critique box below), try sharpening the waterline edge as it runs up onto the sand. even in real life, there's a little line of separation caused by water tension. Also, try to use less blue and instead actually try to reflect the sky and more of Syron's actual colors, and then distort it using smudges here and there. It makes it look more "watery". There are alot of tutorials out there for it xD (and while I read in the description that you didn't put much time into it, it'd still be cool to see you try water effects like I mentioned on future pieces.)

This looks wonderful, Drytil. You didn't hafta do this much work for a silly number guessing game. Makes me feel like I dont really deserve it. Regardless, it's going to have a nice home in my fanart faves.
