Description My brother (who's a computer nerd) used to do maintenance on my computer once in a while, and he'd always find things he didn't like that I'd installed (with good reason!). I imagine Otto's persnickety in the same way.

Just in case some people missed it, I thought this was a good time to not only introduce Blue's safety programs but also to reestablish that the civil war never took place and the south was allowed to secede in this universe.

Obviously Otto doesn't approve of programs that come from their sister country. But, he might just be biased.

Even though people in the US in our universe jaywalk all the time, technically it's illegal in most states. :-0 A cop can give you a ticket for it. So... watch out when you jaywalk, and beware of the cops - they'll look for any reason to harass you even if there isn't a car for miles!

Huh, interesting, about the laws and the racism.....nationalism? Whatever the term is, about Otto's prejudices. I'm also curious to see if racism is going to be addressed at all since the Civil War didn't happen, if slavery is still a thing, etc......

There's no slavery, but given this is the eighties, I'm sure there's still an unhealthy dose of racism going about.

I'll admit that, as a 19-century buff with a depressing familiarity with revisionism, your setting in a modern-day CSA had me worried. Now I'm a little less so, though slavery certainly wasn't the only god-awful thing about the Old South.

I figured the modern CSA would end up being very similar to other 1st world countries over time.

There's the little changes in history I was waiting to read. I know there's more to come.

Curious to know what became of the issue of slavery then....

again, my interest in the history of this alt universe is diverted to europe ...

but also, i think that these last two pages might have riled the idea of an Otto and Blue love pairing... beware, for this fandom may become too much to handle.

Haha, I don't think my comics could get big enough for fan pairings, but I guess you never know. :0

confederate states? does this mean the racial profiling lasted longer than it should have? o3o

That's a good question! This comic isn't about racial issues, so you'll just have to use your imagination on that one.

Lemme guess, this is the world where the Confederacy won the Civil War and exists to this day, right?

DrZime In reply to Jax1776 [2014-08-20 23:35:11 +0000 UTC]

Not quite.
In this world there was no civil war - the south was just allowed to secede and slavery died out on its own. But yes, both the USA and the CSA exist.

I can understand the laws for it to an extent, because some people are stupid. XD;; I've seen people jaywalk when there ARE cars coming (and I've had to swerve to avoid such people before), so...

His expression in that first panel is kindof hilarious. XD

Yes, but if people are that stupid, they'll also jaywalk when there are laws anyway.

But do they ever actually bother to give people tickets for it?Β  I've seen people jaywalk all the time, but have never seen anyone get in trouble for it.Β

Heck, I do it myself, since there's no crosswalk where I need to cross to get to the bus...(I wish they would fix that, but I doubt they ever will).Β  There's a college across the street and everybody crosses at that one non-crosswalk-area to get to and from the school.Β  The only crosswalk anywhere close is beyond this really narrow, unpaved, weed-and-litter-infested, (and in my mind, dangerous) walkway that's squished between a fence and the road, with oncoming cars rushing by you meer inches away (and don't even THINK of using it in winter with all the snow XP ).Β  It's MUCH safer to jaywalk. Β

DrZime In reply to VioletWhirlwind [2014-08-20 13:09:12 +0000 UTC]

I think generally the cops doesn't even bother. But, I'm sure there are butthead cops out there who do it.

RedScarfLuxio [2014-08-20 10:25:09 +0000 UTC]

I've always found it curious that it's illegal in most American states to jaywalk. Where I live, we do it all the time! You just have to make sure you're not doing anything silly!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DrZime In reply to RedScarfLuxio [2014-08-20 14:53:05 +0000 UTC]

Oh, we do it all the time as well. It's just that technically it's illegal and if a cop is in a bad mood he can fine you for it.
