Photoshop has changed too much. At least as far as the tools I use. All I ever use is the paint brush and layers, so when they add new bells and whistles it doesn't matter to me.

Then perhaps after I feel a tad more better than I do now I'll see if you can give me some pointers and show you the attempt I made a while back...it worked, but not how I needed lol

Does it seriously take that much to make a transparent background? It's simple yeah, but compared to clicking one single button on GIMP... well

It's not that much~~ It's a little bit of a misleading title, actually, because every layer except the special "Background Layer" has a transparent background automatically.
Alternately, you can just toggle it's visibility off (one click) or in current versions, select the background layer and press Backspace (Delete on the Mac).
But this tutorial *is* showing a particular kind of thing that not many people know how to do--converting a locked, non-transparent layer into a regular layer, and then deleting it.

I see, but I'm not a Photoshop user. It's just a lot diferent. But For converting a layer I know it's the same thing.

That much? It's also one click of a button. She was just showing how to fix it, if it didn't work the first time. Because there would surely be people who had that come up, and would complain.
