Description It's a simple drawing, but the design itself is fairly close to final. This creature is called the Magnetor, one of the genetically engineered warrior infantry of the conquesting alien race Thrajekki. This came from a project I was very devoted to a few years ago, but I eventually moved on. It was an intricate space epic involving a society of photonic intelligences called Star Striders, the dread Thrajekki, and a the human race. It pitted the Magnetor and its ilk against cybernetic therapod dinosaurs (aka Cybersaurs) created by humans. It was kinda goofy, but fun to think about.

Anyway, the Magnetor is a speedy monster that can jump incredible distances. It has incredible power and agility, but only for a short period of time... then it must return to giant nests to recharge. Its whiplike forearms and tail are razor sharp and composed of electrically charged ferromagnetic crystals, which can cut through defensive force fields. The shield around the Magnetor's face is light but incredibly tough, composed of carbon fiber tissue, and impervious to most projectile weaponry. These formidable soldiers attack by the hundreds of thousands, overwhelming their enemies with alarming rapidity.

functionally speaking, i disagree with the hoofs. try something else.
VERY SLIGHTLY gigeresque, but cool design.

Yeah, you're right about the hoofs: they're not very functional for a climbing creature. The only reason I put 'em in is I'd never seen an alien design with hoofs, and I wanted to do something new.

In terms of what inspired the design, there's a funny story around that. A couple months after I drew this I discovered a tabletop strategy game called Warhammer 40,000 that featured a race of aliens called Tyranids who look a lot like magnetors, hoofs and all [link] . I guess the creators of Warhammer are also Giger fans.

Thanks! I'm planning to do a bigger, more detailed Photoshop version when I have some damn time. Stupid final exams.

Wow the detail in this is absolutly amazing on this creature. i really like the idea behind it as well. It sounded liek the idea it was from was really cool. Are you thinking of going back to it?

Thanks for the complement. I'm glad you liked the idea behind Cybersaurs, but as it began to form into a complete story, I ran into some major plot holes that couldn't be solved without heavily rethinking the premise I alread had. The premise pivoted largely on a piece of goofy pseudoscience that always bugged me, and I couldn't get the pacing of the story to work right. Plus, I discovered I can't draw machines to my satisfaction, so a story about cyborgs and futuristic interplanetary war was impractical. But if you're interested in the idea, I do have a short story I wrote about it in 9th grade as an english project. I could send it to you in a note if you want, or post it on my account. The story's not bad for a 13 year old, but like I said I now find the idea too goofy to work on seriously. I may make pictures of certain scenes that are vivid in my mind, but the Cybersaur graphic novel trilogy I had once envisioned is a bygone ambition.

That stinks. I hate it when that happenes. I had a story about four gods for the elements and they all had really cool histories, characters designs, and personal conflicts, but the story was just so much like everything else that I gave up on it. It really stinks when you look back on the character and cant' do anything with them, even if you like them a whole lot. But if you want to send me the story(in whatever format you want), I would love to read it^_^

Tell me about it. I'm working on a new story now (that's where all the demons come in) and it's practically impossible to keep original. Ah well. I'll send you the story in a note, I've just gotta find it on my backup disks.
