The second illustration I did for the forthcoming Wizard of Oz based CCG, release by Orion's Bell [link] Crack open those piggy banks, it's time to purchase some starter packs."...Oz had taken the shape of a most terrible Beast. It was nearly as big as an elephant, and the green throne seemed hardly strong enough to hold its weight. The Beast had a head like that of a rhinoceros, only there were five eyes in its face. There were five long arms growing out of its body, and it also had five long, slim legs. Thick, woolly hair covered every part of it, and a more dreadful-looking monster could not be imagined."

Thank you! I'm not used to doing wool or polished wood, so this was an interesting learning experience for me. The textures certainly consumed most of my time on this piece.

Whoa, this thing is so creepy and menacing! If you hadn't explained it, I would have thought it was an avatar of Nyarlathotep or something. I love the soft luminosity, especially in the glow of the woolly fur and as revealed by the dust particulates suspended in those shafts of light. Fantastic!

Nice!! The whole feel of the image is very creepy and brooding, like the creature might attack at any moment... or simply chuckle at you. Excellent stuff!

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. Though I have to give props to Jacob Johnson for the mood of the piece, as he did the original throne room illustration on which I based it.
