Y'all already know me- I love Sunburst a whole dang lot. Still, aside from my general weakness to goober nerds and his general adorableness, I have a more personal reason as to why I'm particularly drawn to ol' Sunny boy. When Sunburst was introduced, he was shown to be a recluse who believed he was a failure- hiding away from his problems and isolating himself from everyone he knew. While I've never gone to such an extreme, I have to admit I suffer from bouts of loneliness often, mostly from my own doing, and, on many occasions, I hold a lot of guilt for reasons I really shouldn't. It's hard picking myself back up from these moments, but I feel much better afterwards once I do.
I resonated a lot with Sunburst when he was first introduced, and the more I've developed his character, the more I continue to see myself mirrored in him as I flesh him out for Harmonyverse. Sunburst's journey is full of a lot of things like learning to be okay with himself and his abilities, loving who he is and what he does, and all sorts of stuff that shows him he's far more capable than what he believes. It's a journey I hope I can follow in my own life as I grow up some more.
I managed to snag an hour from working on a school project today since I was ahead of my personal schedule, but my hand slipped and suddenly this was all I worked on- I'm going to have to do overtime tonight and tomorrow after work, but I'm glad I got this out to you guys. It's been a while since I've posted, and I've been feeling like I really needed to just draw one of my favorite comfort characters to cheer myself up and keep going. I hope this cheers you guys up, too! And since I'm curious, since I figure I can't be the only one, who's your comfort character? Who do you see a lot of yourself in? Let me know down below! Also, will I ever be consistent with the way I draw Sunburst?? Probably never, but for a while now, this has been the design I've been most attached to for Sunny in Harmonyverse, so maybe I've finally nailed his appearance the way I want it to- only time will tell, I suppose, heh! Also Also, yes, I wear scrunchies, and my favorite is this blue one, because it makes me think of my Hogwarts house, pfft. Go, Ravenclaw!

Aaahh this is so cute!!! I saw this and clicked your gallery and didnt read the desc at first so seeing the other pony was your ponysona I knew I had to come back and actually read the description!!
So this really isnt MLP related at all: But my biggest comfort character is Bruce Banner or the Incredible Hulk. Part of it is simply selfshipping where I have made a Marvel selfinsert and have romantic relations with Bruce Banner/Hulk but.. the big part of it is that I relate to him /so much/. The most common backstory people give him is that his father was an abusive alcoholic and his mother, who was a huge loving, supportive parent to Bruce, died when he was young [usually by his father's hand]. For me it was the opposite- father was super loving and supportive, mother was abusive [but due to mental illness and not alcohol]. I have a birth defect and thanks to a lot of other traumatizing things that happened through my life, I spent my entire childhood and first few years of adulthood thinking I was fucked up and I had major anger issues, so I would often push people away to not hurt them [like Bruce does, in fear of hurting them with Hulk]. Now that I have reached my early 20s and have gotten the help and meds I've needed I'm healing and doing much better, but what has also helped is thinking of Bruce finally getting the helpful support he needed from the MCU Avengers movies. ;w; The biggest damn thing I relate to tho is Bruce's line of "You cant kill me! I know, I've tried. I got low. I put a bullet in my mouth and the other guy spat it out." I tried to commit suicide and was damn near close of being successful, but my body [and friends at the time tbh] were stubborn and I managed to get better and survive it. But that line hit so close to home because I knew how he felt, I knew that feeling of just wanting it all to end, and just- UUGGHGHHH big feels man. Big big feels!

aww, this is so wonderful! sunburst is an outstanding character and i just love everything about him! it's nice that you see yourself in him, loving a character to this extent is so comforting <3
for me, i have a character that i heavily kin, but it's not mlp lol so for MLP i think my comfort character would have to be starlight! we both have trouble understanding friendship and have difficulty placing trust in other people in fear of being betrayed or rejected. some of my first friendships were deemed toxic because I'm prone to being used a lot and i have trouble speaking up, so its been hard for me to accept new friends or feel like I'm worth it. I also have problems expressing my feelings and sometimes i end up hurting myself and others because of it.
but even through all of this, starlight never gives up on trying to understand other ponies and while she isn't perfect, she is definitely trying her best. it takes time to get better and she's willing to take the journey, and i take comfort in knowing that it's never too late to accept yourself and all your flaws.

I understand what you feel, I've felt this way many time too, and I think it's one of those reasons that I started to like sunburst so much.
I don't know which of the characters I would identify/comfort with most, maybe Sunburst or Twilight, I can feel exactly what they feel, and when I saw that Twilight had a problem and her friends were there for her, I cried a lot and could feel better, as if that was being said to me and saying that everything would be fine, no matter what happened. And I think just like Twilight and Sunburst, I always focused more on studies and books than on friendships, and I think it was with mlp that I could see how important friendship is.
Anyway, I know it's not what I was talking about, but I was wondering if you would let me use sunburst's clothes as a reference, it's just so perfect, and I wish I could draw the sunburst like this. Of course, only if you allow, if you don't allow, I will understand perfectly.

Ahh, I think I was not very clear, I was referring to the gray shirt he wears under his cloak, you know, like using this as a reference, is that I thought of something like that for the sunburst, but I didn't know if you would be upset if I made him wear a gray shirt like this without me asking you. But if you don't want me to do that I'll understand. (sorry for bothering you)

Sunburst! I always like how you draw him!
Personally, I resonate with Twilight pre S9 the most: incredibly anxious bookworm who wants to learn more and please others along the way. I've even act like her: panicking over little things that are easily solved by friends, smelling old books (and loving it!), geeking out over books/artifacts/knowledge/etc., and overall the clumsy purple unicorn/alicorn princess allows me to chuckle at myself. Plus she once lived in a library which is like a fantasy dream of mine.

I guess I could say Pinkie Pie is my comfort character. She's a bubbly, cheerful energetic pony who'se life meaning is to make her friends, family and everypony around her smile. She finds her joy in someone else's laughter, yet, under this sunshine and smiles facade, she hides her frail ego, in which whenever fails to believe in herself, she easily falls into a hole of depression and self-doubt. I'd be lying if I didn't see myself in her.
It's kinda cool how your sona actually looks a lot like sunburst, it's like you're father and daughter!

I'd have to say Ditzy/Derpy/Muffins is my personal comfort character, just because no matter how many times she messes up, she's still cheery and upbeat

For me, Kerfuffle made me so happy and I felt like I really connected with a character even though she was on screen for all of 5 minutes. While I don't suffer from the same disability she does, I loved how no one looked at her differently or treated her like she wasn't capable. Her story resonates with me, too. She looks up to famous designers and tries to work off of existing ideas and stay in a comfort zone, when she could do well if she branched out by herself and trusted in her abilities.

Aw, this is amazing! Good job, I have to say I lone Sunburst's mane in your style.
My comfort character would probably be Scootaloo. There really wasn't many characters I could relate to when I was a kid. I'm handicapped, will be on a wheelchair for life probably, but Scootaloo was a handicapped character in my eyes waaaay before it was canon. I adored how chiper and fun she stil seemed to be, she had friends, she had her hobbies (that she was amazing at). That's something I was scared I wouldnt get. Plus, looking up to a person and wanting to be just like them? Yeah, Scoots, same. I don't really know how to explain all of this well :'3

If I had to choose a comfort character, I'd say Fluttershy and/or Pinkie Pie. Fluttershy because I see a lot of myself in her. I can be pretty shy and kind of a pushover when people need something from me, but there are times where I put my foot down and say 'NO' just like she does. And to see that even she stumbles from time to time with her assertiveness, it fills me with relief that it's okay to fumble with your shyness problem. As for Pinkie, she's what I WANT to be in a sense. I like making people smile and it hurts when I can't do that all the time. But I've also learned through her that happiness can't really be forced and that sometimes, people need space or listening ear rather than a laugh to feel better.

This is beautiful! I love the way you draw Sunburst; you make him so handsome and wise-looking, and your ponysona is really pretty as well. Also, I can totally relate with you empathizing with him, as I feel the same way. If I had to pick who my comfort character is, it would probably be either Sunburst as well (since I'm a bit of a recluse myself) or Big Mac (as I'm also a big brother who had to shoulder a lot of responsibility).

I guess one of the characters I connect most is Pinkie Pie. She's always been one of my favourites if not my favourite pony. She's inherently cheerful and energetic, bombastic, loving and fun. A pony whoose life meaning is to make everypony around them smile and make them happy. Her own joy comes from cheering up ponies around her. But all that seems to also be a mask hiding her frail ego deep inside, and when she fails to believe herself, she easily falls in a deep hole of depression and disbelief. I'd be lying if I didn't identify a lot with that.
