Aw man, now I know why I thought Cadance would be such a hassle to draw. Forget Celestia, she's a piece of cake to color.Moving on, yep! I've had this idea for a looooong while, trust me. I'm a big fan of Doctor Who and I was delighted to discover (way back then when I was only but a noob brony) Β that the Doctor was referenced in the show. Not only that, but lots of people devoted themselves to the Doctor's adventures in pony-land in forms of radio plays and tumblr accounts (i.e: Doctor Whooves and Assistant, Doctor Whooves Adventures, to name a few, and those which mostly inspired and entertained me). I've been a fan of these things since.Β Still, I wanted to come up with my own personality for the Doctor (the whooved version), and I wanted a fresh companion for him which I hadn't seen in this part of the fandom before, and then boom! I just thought of Cadance.
But why, you ask? Why this mostly unpopular princess with her triple colored mane and annoyingly hard-to-draw wings?
Well, I felt she had potential, to give you the short end of it. I began to really think about her being the Doctor's companion after watching the episode "Three's A Crowd" from season 4. Quick recap: Discord intends to ruin Twilight's and Cadance's day by playing the sick card after they plan to go see the Starswirl the Bearded Museum and spend quality time together. Hijinks ensue and in the end Cadance reveals that she was glad for what had happened in that episode and was enjoying the adventure and excitement, saying that life in the Crystal Empire had become predictable.
And if there's' anyone (well, now anypony) out there that can provide adventure and excitement, it's Pinki- the Doctor.
So then a whole idea swirled around in my head and I'm glad to say I've nailed the whole plot down firmly and these two will be my next big project in the future! I've already got some stories in mind and I'm eager to show you all their chemistry, most of all their story. The whole thing takes place in an alternated sort of timeline/universe ( a "what if" Equestria, if you will), which partly explains Cadance's appearance. More info on that, later. Look at the both of them. Ready to fight aliens and save Equestria, aw.

I like your reasoning. Cadence wouldn't really be abandoning her duties as long as she came back to them every now and again.
The only snag I can see in your plan is Shining Armor. Sans a divorce, you'd likely have to either bring him along, or have him let Cadence go until she comes back.

Glad you brought him up! I didn't leave him out at all and his position in this whole idea has been taken care of. I was going to plot it all down later, but since you brought it up, I might as well clear up any confusion, haha. In this version of MLP, Equestria is at war, with Shining Armor at the battle front. It's a trying period in their marriage, but they figure things out along the way, and if the Doctor takes Caddy on a few (mostly dangerous) adventures, he doesn't need that added worry, right?

Ah. An AU. That'll give you a lot more elbow room. Though now I wonder if your AU is only different in events, or if there are other differences as well.

Yep! Haha, totally. It's definitely different in certain events prior to season 4, but also includes other small differences as well.
