Description Oil on Canvas, 8 x 10 inches. A small Still Life of music sheets, rolls of paper, a candle, and an ink and quill. I'm really enjoying doing these music still lifes in the candlelight and I plan to do them more often, depends, but I think they feel right and suite the subject the way I want it too.

Well done my friend!

This piece gives off a very scholarly air to it, now i know it was supposed to be a writing of some musician, but to me the whole thing spells out library or scholar, something to do with books and writing.

Just some things I'm going to point out that i really enjoyed; I really like the detail on the writing quill, how every part conecting to the shaft of the feather is very defined and seperate, yet all clumped together at the same time. I really like how the colorscape you have chosen is yellow, [which really sent the "scholarly" vibe home for me at least] because that's a really good color that is plucky and happy most of the time but the yellow you used I think is rather desaturated, making it seem old and timeless. So, overall, fantastic job on thsi piece, and um, well continue the great work!

Thank you for this critique! And I'm glad you see it that way because I partially wanted it to feel that way, it is one reason I added the paper rolls and partially the quill. But I'm glad you enjoy this and I appreciate the feedback, it really is helpful! So thanks again

You're very welcome. Like i said, the colorscheme gave me that vibe mostly, but the scrolls and the quill helped it along.

The way you paint your lines and how they make up the composition, it reminds me of a Van Gogh piece. I love the warmth it gives, I can feel the glow of the candle. I love the textural look just the overall composition. How long did it take you to make this? My eyes first are brought to the candle flame because of the light it shines over the wall, very nice. You have a really amazing talent and I hope to find more of your work. Keep up the good work and continue to make a lot of great things e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>.

Thank you very much for taking time to write me a critique! And van Gogh is one of the artists I get inspiration from the most. And it only took 3 or a little more hours to paint, mostly because it's pretty small and I did a complete practice sketch and shading before I painted it. But again, thank to very much! I appreciate it

Thank you very much! Light has been an interest in my paintings because it is the source of color I especially do love the wary of candle light!

These paintings have got me wondering. Are you a composer?

Actually, I do a bit. Nothing major so far, but every once in a while I do compose some music.

That's wonderful! You should send me some! Do you have it digitized? My email address is fern.ivy@gmail.com. Or (hopefully) you're on YouTube. I'm guessing that you don't have it recorded, but I hope you do.

I will send you some once I manage to finish something I am sure of, haha. I keep jumping around to different songs and keep struggling at the moment, but I will send you some once I get them complete, ha. I haven't made a YouTube for them yet, but I plan on it, possibly.

The light falls wonderfully across the parchment and the table, what did you use as reference? Composition-wise, the light of the candle draws the eye to the center of the work perfectly! The music does not look like the direct focal point, which, whether or not you were going for that, I really like. It makes the piece quiter, more delecately beautiful.

Thanks I used Ozias Leduc's Candlelight Study and of course some Georges de La Tour, ha. And yeah, the main emphasis is on the light and the quill, symbolizing the idea and the will to transfer the idea into the world, which would be the music, the result of the idea. Thanks again though, ha

So cool! I love hearing the explanation of an artist's intention Art means different things to different people, but it's great to know what it means to the artist himself/herself!

The first glance and what came to my mind was: something from van Gogh that I don't know.
But I'm even more impressed seeing it's your own work, not a copy. BRAVO!
