Description
A diorama I made for a contest a bit over a year ago now.A temporary Ylmaharian frontline trench being overrun by a Leman Russ that seems to have killed most of the defenders, save for a lone trencher with a magnetic charge.
There's more things to be seen down in the trench and from other angles, but that's not too easy to capture with a camera.
I know the Imperial camo is really impractical, but it looked striking which was the idea at the time.
I also know the trench is on the 'wrong' side of the tank barriers, it's obviously an attempt to capture ground on towards the Imperial line.
I also need to get better at painting dirt.

I'm loving that dud mortar shell in the lower left! Adds a little more character, I think.

Thanks, tried to throw on anything that might be likely on a battlefield. There's plenty of debris down in the trench, but sadly it's hard to take photos of. Glad you like it!

Hey! You think tour dirt looks bad. Mines shit! But if you want it to look good try going over it with a dark citadel wash colour like Badab Black. That seems to work well for me.

I only just noticed the lone Trencher behind the dragons-tooth looks like he's crying!

Big bold patterns usually work best, don't clutter the machines with small dots or anything like that, will just make it look strange. At least on models you want the camo to add to the feel of the tank, rather than actually mask the outlines.. The best tip is probably to get a bunch of scrap cards and paint them, expirement with patterns and colours.
I use big blotches with pointed edges and black borders, but wavy lines will also work. Expirement around and see what you find..
