Description For *opsidian

Drawtime: 10+ hours

First turtle I've ever drawn. Had to look at several reference pictures to understand how the flippers were structured and the eyes, placed. Overall, I'm happy with the design - for the pencil sketch, before inking, I used a ruler to keep things aligned. The shell was the hardest part of the design, because of its mostly straight edges.

Hope you like.

I'm a shellback (crossed the equator aboard ship) and I want this tattooed on my forearm now.

Not originally intended to be so, but if you see similarities, sure.

Thanks, this one was one of the harder designs to finish.

For a first turtle, I'd say that looks right on the money. Love the shell pattern the most.

Thanks! It was the hardest part because I was trying to get it to be as even as possible. After messing with rulers for 3 hours, I decided to go for broke, eye it and hope for the best.

I'm aggressively building up my tattoo portfolio right now - need about 20 more images. In the montoge I am creating with tattoo images, I accidentally left the Cerberus in Okinawa, so I do not have a nice scan of it right now. Maybe in the second one I plan to do, it will be in the design. Just something to look forward to, me-thinks.

Heh, and here I thought aggressive turtles went out of the public conciousness in the early 90's, guess I was wrong. Great job!

They brought the TMNT back, remember watching them as a kid, one of my favorite shows, hehe.

Thanks. I have 2 more tattoos to go before I finish the list on my journal entry. Think one of my next ones I will try to draw up is a saber-toothed cat of sorts. Haven't drawn a cat in years. In fact, most of these tattoos, if they are not dragons or bird-types, I have not drawn before. Gotta love firsts.

ok thats a sweet ass turtle, I love it. really love the patterns on the flippers, the curve pattren really ccompliments the lines on the shell. The shell reminds me of Gamera for some reason, was actually one of the first things I thought of while looking at it. Very cool, think I might have to put this on my right leg sweet work, many thanks.

If there's any photos I can take for you just letme know

I'm glad you like it. If ya get it done, please take a photo of it, so I can keep it in my achieves and possibly post up with this image.

Hmm photos.. well anything you got on the Spit or P-40 would be great, but my real obsession is with the NightHawk and B-2. Don't know if they'd be easy to capture though, since they don't make housevisits.

I love the texturing of the shell, dunno why but it simply calls me to see it. I don't really like the designs on the flippers though, not that they're bad, but to my personal taste I don't really like 'em. Also, don't you think the eyes are too big?

I was trying to make the lines thicker around the eyes, but not make them huge, and that was the result. I was considering putting the eyes where humans have theirs, but I decided against it. I do not think I could have kept my sanity if I kept doing the straight-edged lines for the flippers that I used on the shell. I wanted a contrast as well, so that was the result.

I really like the floral touches on the flippers, and how they work with the geometry of the overall design. Also, the blacks are fantastic this time around.

Thanks. Contrast of design is what I was going for. I started "re-inking" so areas of the design to make them darker and I think that helped.

Yes, it helped a lot.
