Description
long time no post! been quite busy with some other work. Here's drawing to the first assignment of from my Honors Portfolio class. I guess its kind of a warm up to the semester since it was pretty open subject matter. we were to choose from a list of 5 phrases and then create an image from the phrase.
i chose the phrase:
"Mysterious orchids fall from my memory like a frozen waterfall"
So here's the story behind the image. I was really interested in the cultural significance behind the concept of memory. I came across the Greek titan goddess Mnemosyne who is the personification of memory, the creator of words and literature and the mother of the 9 muses.
with that in mind i created this image. obviously a very mucha influenced piece. i felt that it was an appropriate style to use on such an abstract subject matter.
anyways, hope ya like
--edit--
submitted the version with the fixed knee

I think that I could stare at this for a day, and be happy that every little detail looks just like it should

I am blown away with all the detail, and with clean lines. I am totally jealous.

I actually like this one more than the color version. The line quality is amazing. Very controlled.

Beautiful piece! Out of curiosity, what are the designs in the background? Do they have a specific meaning or are they just to add to the overall feel of the piece?

Very loving. Your right, it does have a very Mucha-like feel to it. But you've executed it quite nicely. I love how I can tell the foreground, middleground, and background from each other with the varying line weight. And there is a very nice consistency to the lines. Awesome job. ^^

Really beautiful piece. I like the references to the muses in the background.
I'm curious why you used lilies rather than orchids?

This is really great.
But it is ruined by how off her right knee is. It is waaay too low for it to be correct, even if it is foreshortened.
Otherwise beautiful linework.

yes, its definitely mucha-esque, and i think its very well done!
just take care when you color it, to pull all the little details together with a not too complex color scheme.
really lovely
