Description
Took a break from life today to create this - first planet in several weeks and it felt good to create again. I only spent about 2 hours on it but I liked what came out at the end of my tinkering this time around.Created in Photoshop.
Enjoy!

The planet itself looks just great, but I think, the sky is a bit empty o.O All the stars seem to have the same size o.O
But anyway: Looks really good

Nice work

Nice work, I really like the color/texture combonation with the planet, very unique and alien like.

That planet texture looks great! I love how you can make a great piece without nebulas, more than one planet, asteroids, or anything else sometimes involved with space art, but with only a planet and stars. Nice.

Can you give me some tips on how to do somethin' like this in Photoshop?

Hmm, well I'm convinced that each person learns and works a different way, so what I do is not the best way or anything.
What I try to do is figure out what I want as far as the composition goes first and then have that rough layout in mind as I start to create each element. So before I started I knew I wanted to have a single planet with one light source, etc.
Then it's just a matter of creating each piece of the puzzle and trying to tie them together - I like to establish the background early on and there are several really good tutorials I took notes from from regarding starfields and such here on dA. The planet is pretty simple, just a texture that's been sphereized and adjusted with various glows and shadows to give the illusion of 3-dimensional space. After that I like to use a big blurred lens flare to give the light a little extra "twinkle" and the rest is history.
Hope that was helpful - if there's anything else you're curious about drop me a note and I'll give you links to some of the tutorials and such I've found here that really helped me get an idea of where to start with this stuff. Have fun!
