Description
[please download to view full size]This is my first "mega-panorama" made from 37 individual shots. It was a rather misty morning, but I managed to get quite clear shot.
This is a back road connecting the towns of Lightstreet and Buckhorn Pennsylvania. I like the way the shot came out. This is actually a curving 90 degree turn in the road exaggerated by the panorama. [link]
[edit 2009-09-28] This won 1st place in the Landscape division -and- Best in Category at the 2009 Bloomsburg Fair.
[edit 2011-01-01] I was asked to put together a tutorial on panoramic shots. Here is a link to it. [Tutorial ]

Thanks. The area is completely changed. This shot definitely captured a moment in time that is gone.

Thanks so much. The little lens distortion, which is usually something to avoid, only added to the shot.

Thanks. It's true what they say about timing is everything. The same area today looks totally different. There was severe flooding this fall, added to the terraforming that is being done to create a man-made lake nearby, and you get a completely changed look. I'm not even sure if I could stand where I did for this photo. I should do a follow up, encouraging everyone to "stop and take the picture when they see it." It might not be there when you come back.

Great work and awesome contrast with the red and the fog. Tried to do something with fog myself, but failed hard. :> Respect.

I know exactly what you mean about fog being a difficult subject. I got lucky

I shot another one this morning and it's way better than the tries before The fog was very thin and almost gone but I managed to catch the sun beams:

Amazing capture - nice job with the panorama. The light mist adds a good element.

Thank you. It really was a perfect day for the shot. Bright sun coming through the trees, but still a bit of morning mist on the cool, wet roads.

I remained completely speechless for a second. It is truly INCREDIBLE. 37 shots?! talk about hard working.

DwayneF In reply to Thea6897 [2010-12-27 21:34:14 +0000 UTC]
Thanks. It's not as much work as you'd think. The stitching software does the hard work. I only need to make sure the component shots are easy for it to combine.

I'll try to post a tutorial on what I did to get the panorama. It's hard to describe in words. Maybe I'll be able to show it in pictures.

Did you take the shots from one spot and just rotate your camera? This is amazing! I can't believe the image consists of 37 individual shots!

DwayneF In reply to MaximumMinion [2010-12-26 22:56:51 +0000 UTC]
I used a tripod. It's hard to describe how I got the final picture. I always make sure to overlap by at least 1/3. That is, as I turn the camera, I keep at least 1/3 of the previous shot in the next shot. This helps when "stitching" the frames together.

Is it only a horizontal panorama or a vertical as well? I did a 360 panorama with 6-7 shots once so it's hard to imagine 37

DwayneF In reply to MaximumMinion [2010-12-27 13:07:32 +0000 UTC]
many of the shots could have been 1/2 overlap or greater. I wanted the overlap so the distortion wouldn't be as obvious. There were 4 rows of vertical shots used for my pano. Maybe only 70Β° to 80Β° from left to right. About 45Β° from horizontal panning up.
