Description [please download to view full size]

This is my first "mega-panorama" made from 37 individual shots. It was a rather misty morning, but I managed to get quite clear shot.

This is a back road connecting the towns of Lightstreet and Buckhorn Pennsylvania. I like the way the shot came out. This is actually a curving 90 degree turn in the road exaggerated by the panorama. [link]

[edit 2009-09-28] This won 1st place in the Landscape division -and- Best in Category at the 2009 Bloomsburg Fair.

[edit 2011-01-01] I was asked to put together a tutorial on panoramic shots. Here is a link to it. [Tutorial ]

The colors are amazing in this shot, the lighting make it look so surreal. I have always loved the slate rock in this state, this pan makes the trees look like they are growing right out of them. The exaggerated corner is just really freakin' cool to look at!

Very well done, but .... I could do without those power lines in the upper right corner.

I'm going to have to spend a bit of time in your gallery ....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DwayneF In reply to MrParts [2009-03-26 03:34:50 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean about the power lines. I'd also like to have more on the tree tops. They kind of merge with the trees that were on the side of the road behind me... A "hollow" I guess we call it 'round these parts. So there wasn't a clear stopping point.

The light fog helps diffuse some of the morning light. That also helped with the surreal aspect.

Thanks

Without a doubt, one of the best multi-stitch pans out there!

You still using a Point-N-click, for this too?
Did you happen to use a tripod and pan head or just hand-held it.

Ever seen that robotic gigapan machine, works with compacts.

This was done with my point-n-shoot. I did use a tripod but nothing special.

Now that I have the Nikon D60, I want to get back to the same spot and recreate the shot in the spring. Once things have a chance to get a bit more green.

I had not seen the gigapan machine. Thanks! Now I have something else to add to the wish list

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DwayneF In reply to AShoreNeverReached [2009-01-04 23:46:09 +0000 UTC]

As the crow files, it's about 1000 feet (304.8 meters). [link]
Just under 3 miles from the nearest exit from I-80.

I'll warn you. There isn't much available parking...and there is still snow there. Just ask AAA! I got stuck there Friday afternoon when I went to take more pictures

At least I had something to do while I was waiting for the tow truck.

There is a lot more to the area I want to shoot when time permits.

DwayneF In reply to montroytana [2009-01-02 01:04:31 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

I was only off the road about 3 feet (apx 1 meter) to take the series of shots. The entire hill and road would not fit in one frame from that view point. I tried to eliminate as much distortion as I could. Maybe I'll head back out and grab a shot of it in one frame. I'll probably post it to scraps, unless I can salvage it into something worth while.

crazy shot man!
the only complaint i have is the top of the trees are cut off.

thank you for the fav on Fucking Myself, too!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DwayneF In reply to BlackScarletLove [2009-01-02 01:10:26 +0000 UTC]

I had the same "argh" moment when I got home and was merging the shots. However, the tress form a "hollow" in that area. The tops of those trees commingle with the tops of the trees that were behind me. There isn't any nice place to call a "top."

I do plan to go back and get another 1 frame shot for reference. Sad thing is, all the colors will be brown and grey now that we have snow...that promptly melted.

And hey...it's always nice to see I'm not the only one always fucking myself.
