Description
[please download to view full size]This is my first "mega-panorama" made from 37 individual shots. It was a rather misty morning, but I managed to get quite clear shot.
This is a back road connecting the towns of Lightstreet and Buckhorn Pennsylvania. I like the way the shot came out. This is actually a curving 90 degree turn in the road exaggerated by the panorama. [link]
[edit 2009-09-28] This won 1st place in the Landscape division -and- Best in Category at the 2009 Bloomsburg Fair.
[edit 2011-01-01] I was asked to put together a tutorial on panoramic shots. Here is a link to it. [Tutorial ]

It always reminds me of the cool rainy day that the photo was taken.

i dig it. so how is this done? did u just mount ur tripod at the apex of the curve and shoot a bunch of vertical shots from left to right?

DwayneF In reply to StevenDavisPhoto [2010-12-25 20:26:50 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! Acutally, that is more-or-less what I did to get the shots. Then I used free stitching software called Hugin, with final processing in Photoshop.

nice. why not just huge photoshop's stitching process? is Hugin better?

DwayneF In reply to StevenDavisPhoto [2010-12-25 20:50:49 +0000 UTC]
I definitely get better results from hugin, and I find it easier to use. Maybe because I used it before I bought Photoshop, it makes me a little loyal.
Of course, I still see all the things that could have been better in the shot. I'm always humbled when people give such great comments.

I loved the effect of an island in the mist.

Thanks. It's really just an extremely tight turn in the road. A turn, smaller than 90Β°, just pops up as you're driving along.

is this megapano taken standing at one place? or did you follow the curve whilest taking the pano?

A good question...I stood in one spot, with a tripod.

I agree on your comment of darkness. I've tried to re-process the shot several times, and haven't been able to get anything I'm more happy with. I wish I would have had a camera that shot in RAW, but at the time I was using a mid-level point-and-shoot.
I appreciate the critique

what an awesome comment! The area behind me is used for fishing. The state/county are "building" a lake in the area too. I hope they include developing this area as part of the project.

Thanks! I picked up the picture today. I was worried I would get there and find it had been damaged, but it was in one piece. I'm still shocked to have gotten the award.
