Alright, here's my first model for 2007.- 851 Polygons (mostly quads)
- 170% UV coverage
- 1024x1024 - texture for the body
- 32x64 - texture and alpha for the little flame
This is my dirty, worn-out red paint look. It's based on that real-time strategy game look, such as in Supreme Commander/Total Annihilation ([link] ), Dawn of War ([link] ) and so on. It's not made for extreme close-ups, obviousely, and it has one major team color that can be changed to anything else easily.
I didn't make a pose for it yet or made it shoot flames from where the hands should be, but I'll probably make an image with that later on.
I'm particularly happy with my UV mapping on this one. I spent a couple of hours mapping it but everything's mapped properly, from the large areas to the tiny antennas.

No, no, this is for fun since I liked the art direction for the new Dawn of War races so much. I'm still working on the Burrat race ships though for WWMad and then I'll need some Human buildings. Ugh..

Me likes. Textures look good, I like the worn paint look. One thing though, I dont know if its just me, but the worn edges with the exposed silver, seem to be extruded out a bit much, seems as if it should be the other way around, the solid paint, being a higher relief than the edges. But thats a random thing that just caught my eye.
Overall, I like how this came out.

I used a bit of sharpening in Photoshop after the render to make the textures stand out a bit more so that's "probably" why it seems that way. In the original render everything looked at about the same level, since I'm not using a bump map or anything. I'll play around a bit and maybe add a darker edge to all the red plates/tiles to make them seem thicker than the whiter parts. Come to think of it, I might just try a quick bump or normal map since that'll definitely do the job.
