Well, maybe e-net wrote the story before Neji died or found out too late. Also, there are several things that were in the manga that aren't here (such as Madara/Tobi is Obito, Sasuke returning, etc) but It's e-net's story, so e-net alone chooses what would happen.

Okay, because everybody's thinking it:
What I think will hapen; Naruto goes mad and either succeeds or dies trying in getting Sasuke free. Whether Sasuke will cooperate is an entirely different matter... So whether or not Sasuke will die is still completely open for me. Maybe team hawk will do a surprise appearance, maybe Kakashi (most likely to be the executioner) will hesitate which would allow Naru+Saku to save him (including the 'bonds' speech we all know and fear), maybe Itachi's 'eat crow' thing will suddenly appear and stop the execution and maybe everything will just go according to Konoha's wishes and a certain pretty head is going to roll..
