Description
This is my third project for ART 120 this term. I have by far enjoyed doing this one the most, and I think it is one of my best drawings EVER!In case you're not familiar with the subject, I chose the Band from "Guardians of Ga'Hoole" flying through the Echidna's gateway to the Sea of Hoolemere as depicted in "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole."
Look very closely and you'll even see I used a Glauxian script for my signature, modeled after the one seen in the movie. Big kudos to for coming up with the beautiful phonetic system!!

Took a look at your writing (translates to your name, right?) and I have to admit that was not something I anticipated as a potential orthography for the system.
You see, the glyphs were primarily inspired by Mongolian, and as such, each glyph has an initial, medial, and final form, shown left to right on the chart for each letter. So on the top would be the initial sign, the bottom would have the final form, and everything else the medial.
It took a bit to correctly decipher the text because apparently all of your glyphs were final form, and I must admit it does give a new artistic perspective to the matter, the calligraphically pleasing lines lending an overall resemblance to Tolkien's Tengwar or Sarati; perhaps this is one way certain owls write?
At any rate, that was really beautiful! I'm glad you certainly appreciated the source material and hope to see more soon

Thank you very much!
Yes, it does come out as my name. I do admit that it will take me longer to fully understand the writing rules, and I was wondering why there was more than one column of seemingly different glyphs. When I practice beforehand, it did look like something was a little amiss. Guess I should've done a little more research ^^'
But ultimately, I am indeed taking some artistic liberty for the final product in trying to make the glyphs resemble those seen in the movie as closely as possible. I had a few good references to go off of from the movie art book.
Now that I see it up close, it does look pretty Tolkien-ish, which makes me love it even more since I'm quite a Tolkien geek

My apologies; I have since realized I'd have to explain a LOT more in future writing systems (Latinized orthography, form types, etc.) but I'm glad you put it to good use! I was honestly waiting for someone to end up doing that

It would be interesting to see how the makers of the movie came up with the script. Tell me, do you have scans of the relevant pages? What did you find out when looking at the ref art?

don't worry about the ambiguity- the glyphs are still awesome. There was no specific page focusing just on the glyphs, but there were some glyphs added into the concept art that I could go off of. If I do find something in the book discussing the language I will let you know; I likely could put the pages up soon. I do know for certain that the architecture and decorations featured in the Great Ga'Hoole Tree were inspired by Japanese Samurai/Southeast Asian cultures- it does look pretty cool!

Hope you like them!

HUH! Well! Calligraphy is truly an art form in the Owl Kingdoms it seems. I always imagined it would work that way but DAMN
Knowing that, perhaps the writing system I invented is more or less either demotic (commoner) or some pidgin language that would result from interactions with humans. Still... quite quite beautiful!
Also, do read my latest journal; it's relevant [link]
