While I'm a complete fan of the Sovereign Class, I always wondered what a "what if" scenario would give if the Enterprise-D was not destroyed at Veridian III in Generations and received for the next movie, First Contact, an upgrade/refit to become like the U.S.S. Venture in DS9's The Way of the Warrior. Here is the result. Enjoy

Its just like how some fans really wanted to see the TOS Enterprise in the Original movies. I think I highly detail model of the ship would have worked or if maybe the Refit Enterprise resembled the TOS Enterprise more...kinda like the Phase II Enterprise. Now when I saw First Contact I loved the new Enterprise F but now years later I kinda wish the Galaxy Class had survived the first movie and was the ship throughout the rest of the TNG Era.

Interesting. Love the look. Nice work! Reminds me of the ones where they photoshopped in the Enterprise D sets instead of the Sovereign ones.

I agree that the Sovereign class is an absolutely gorgeous design. Comparatively speaking the Galaxy looks stocky and lumbering.
BUT the Enterprise-D did not deserve to go down at Veridian III like a cheap dockyard whore. By all means have her go before her time, but in the name of all things holy please make it be for a good reason, not because she got sucker-punched by a couple of the series' more forgettable recurring characters. The demise of the original 1701 in The Search for Spock meant something beyond "we just want a ship that fits cinema aspect ratio better next time".
In an ideal world, I'd have had theΒ Enterprise-D maybe lose her stardrive section, but have the saucer survive β and after an extensive retrofit we see her back in action for First Contact. And with a completely new secondary she could have had all of those nice new corridors and cavernous main engineering set that we saw on theΒ Enterprise-E. Hell, maybe even a new bridge too. And we'd have finally got to see the proper Captain's Yacht in Insurrection. With a movie budget and some CGI we'd have finally got to see the Enterprise-D as we always should have.

Yep, and perhaps this new stardrive section had implemented the new nacelles phaser pods like the Venture

This is how it happened in my Polarisverse. She received the phaser lance cannon after the Shinzon incident.

I personally would say yes and no : I really love the Enterprise-E, but the Enterprise-D did not deserve to go down that way
