-Finally!- Jake sighed in relief as he threw the last empty box to the pile. He had finally decorated his room, and it looked great. A few posters here and there, his clothes on their place, and all his stuff was already set up. He sat on his bed to rest for a second, he picked up the pile and walked downstairs to throw them away. His mother was in the kitchen, preparing lunch.
-What are you doing, sweetie?- she asked
-Just going to throw these away.-
-Why? They look perfectly good to me. Go put them away somewhere else; we might need them someday.-
-But where?-
-I dunno, but don't throw them away.-
-Fine...- he sighed as he turned away, looking for some space to leave the boxes. As he turned around his mother yelled:
-Try the basement!-
-We have a basement?- he turned around to her, puzzled.
-I think so, but I haven't looked at it yet. I think it's somewhere under the living room.-
-Huh. Creepy.- Jake muttered to himself as he turned over and started looking for the basement door. After a while with no luck, his mother helped him until they finally found a rusty knob under the mat.
-Cool, just like in horror movies.- he muttered. He pulled the door and the hinges squeaked as a cloud of dust puffed right to their faces. They jumped back coughing and covering their faces. As the dust settled back down, Jake stared down to the basement, but all he could see was a pitch black endless pit.
-Wow...- his mother said.
-Awesome!- he said as he bent down to look better. A strong smell rose and pushed him back.
-Dammit! That smells like rotten sewers!- he said as he covered his nose and turned away. His mother bent down cautiously.
-It's humididty. Probably flooded.- she muttered meditatively.
-It's disgusting.-
-I know. I suggest you hurry and try not to breathe.- she said flatly.
-What? You're kidding....right?-
-You still have to put the empty boxes somewhere. Now hurry up.-
-Moooooooommmmm....- he protested.
-No buts. Now.-
-Ughhh.- he rolled his eyes and picked up the pile. She opened the trapdoor for him and moved aside. He slowly walked down each step, careful of rotten or slippery steps, but despite the creaking and crunching, everything seemed just fine. Halfway the odor struck him again, but now he couldn't do much to avoid it. By the time he was down he had gotten used to it. The floor was soft and earthlike, yet not muddy or even wet. He could barely see with the light from above, but after putting down the boxes he felt the room was quite big. He climbed back up and closed the door. His mother called him from the kitchen.
-What took you so long?-
-Just looking around.-
-Lunch is ready.- she said as she served him. He ate ravenously, already planning his exploration all through the basement.

I'm not sure. It's still a very rough idea but maybe I'll just write down whatever pops in my head.
