The lesser ghamele is much slimmer and more active than the greater ghamele (although it is stilll slow as compared to other animals). Instead of larger prey they are adapted to hunt down arga and doma bees, although they will also eat other insects when available. They are immune to the venom of the arga, but still must snap it up quickly before it has a change to sting. They are sometimes eaten by greater ghameles and babies may be eaten by skitterlings. Like their close relative, the lesser ghameles can scream to alert others in the area to danger. They also use its startlingly loud cry when attacked, which sometimes causes the predator to let the ghamele go. These are a nocturnal species, resting by day in dark shady places and emerging at night to hunt. Each male ghamele holds a small territory which the females can pass through. If she is spotted, he will sing to display to her. Males only come in contact when a new one tries to establish its territory, otherwise they hardly ever battle with one another. Breeding occurs in summer. After mating, the female will travel to the ground and lay a clutch of eggs, which she guards faithfully until they hatch. Females tend to nest colonially, so they can warn each other of predators if one arrives.
